In the past two weeks I have been told that I am not a child of God, that I am not saved, I am an idol worshiper, I am a donkey, I am not open minded and that I believe in ritualistic cannibalism.

I was wondering if other Catholics are treated with such disrespect when discussing religion with others. Also if you have ever heard priests and other clergy speaking with such disrespect when referring to other christian religiuos?

I never get disrespected like that (thank God) and I’ve never heard any priests/any other clergy speaking like that about other religions. Where and with whom are you hanging out with???

I’ve never heard a Priest or Bishop speak in an un-Christian way about a non-Catholic. There is a lot of Catholic-bashing going on though. It’s all done out of ignorance.

I’ve never heard such talk about other Christians from a priest. I’ve heard priests praise Protestant’s enthusiasm for Jesus Christ. Most I’ve encountered are even hesitant to criticize even when pressed.

I wasn’t around before Vatican II, where ecumenism was one major focus. Perhaps the clergy before then were more critical of other Christian religions. I’m really not sure…

Well since you know your not a donkey don’t worry about it.
🙂

Why would you trust the opinion of someone that can’t tell a human being from an animal ? cut your loses and remove them from your company.
People with a limited vocabulary usually come out with insults when they can’t defend themselves with honest debate.

What’s a little slander between brethren? Or a slight schmear amongst sisteren? At the end of the day, do you know who you are?

some of it online and some in person. It seems ok in popular culture to cut on catholics. Man i wonder if they were really present to how insulting some of that is, if they would do it.

I am gotten every remark you named except “donkey”… thats just plain stupid.

One of the worst things I have gotten is being called a “reprobate”… in other words, people feel like they have the authority to judge my soul to Hell. Quite charitable people, no? 😉

It is funny becasue the person that said i wasn’t saved agreed that only God can judge because only he can see hearts.

I told him that no matter how much scripture he can quote, he can NEVER say if someone is saved or not! And he agreed, yet…

funny how flimsy that idea of theirs is.

I also have been called every name in the book by Evangelicals.

Just remember what Jesus said “no one comes to me evcept the Father draw him”. These people are to be pittied.

I don’t think we should pray for them. The Bible says that you should talk to them once or twice them treat them like a tax collector.

…hang around followers of Christ long enough, you might get hung on a cross…

i wish you peace…👍

I have had people start to say such things, but I quickly inform them about the Truth of Catholicism. A lot of people that I have talked with have changed their views on Catholicism, and some of them have even converted!

I want to ask where they feel they get the authority to do this. I will ask and let you know the answers i get.

It happens.

I’ve had a Catholic or two abuse me for merely disagreeing, but I know that they are not typical. And I suspect that the abuse against Catholics is ten times worse–but again, those Protestants aren’t typical, either. They’re pretty easy to find, but they aren’t typical.

When an angry dog barks at you through a fence, don’t kick the fence. If you do, the dog doesn’t learn anything and the barking just gets worse.

I just heard a new one. That the Catholic church is satans church. WOW. thats a bold statement.

You may want to remind them of when the Pharasees accused Jesus of driving out the demons using the power of Satan and how he replied that a house divided cannot stand.

That being the case, if we are the Church of Satan, why do we begin every prayer in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit? This is a simple thing that is recognized immediately as being extremely Catholic. Certainly, if we, as individual Catholics or as a Church, intended to be giving honor to Satan, we wouldn’t be calling out to the enemy.

Then, you may want to ask for one simple (and they need to pick one, but only one) example of how what we believe as Catholics is contrary to the beauty of all that Christ taught. Tell them that you would like to begin the discussion of this one element with a prayer said by the both of you. That prayer is that you ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to the fullness of the truth as given to us from the Father through His son, Jesus Christ. Tell him that you would like to establish as ground rules that you are both seeking to best know and understand God and that you are not interested in engaging in a battle to determine which of you are “right” because the ultimate goal is to find the truth in God.

Then, hear his concern about the teaching of the Catholic Church. Keep it on one topic at a time and never worry if you are unable to answer the question immediately. If you don’t know the answer, tell him / them that you’ll get back with an answer, you just don’t know it right now. If the answers become personal jibes, remind them that you are interested in discussing God’s truth, so that all Glory and Honor might be given unto God. You are not interested in making personal attacks and you would appreciate it if they would return to the ground rules you had agreed to in the beginning.

Keep things Charitable and pray for charity in return. You might be amazed to find that the most fervent detractors of Catholicism have the potential of becoming the most faithful followers once they learn that all they thought they hated about the Church was based on a false understanding of what we believe.

Good luck and God Bless,
CARose

I’ve been called a Satanist (following the path of the evil one, you must come back to the light…etc) and I’ve been told I belong to a cult by one of my close friends…it’s one thing to by Christian, apparently it’s another thing to be Catholic, we get persecuted by both non-christians AND christians at times:) but you know what, it goes both ways, I have known some Catholics who share a hateful tongue against our brothers and sisters…but to me and the majority of us out there, other Christians are just that, our separated brothers and sisters in Christ. We also as a church support our close friends the Jews because we share our common background and our deep, unbreakable love for God. Anyway, the best thing to do is turn the other cheek, show them by example that you’re not a “donkey” (by the way, that had me laughing more than feeling offended, I don’t believe anyone’s ever gotten that creative with me:)) Love and prayer is the best answer, maybe you can prove to them that everything they’ve been taught to believe about us is completely untrue, and then maybe we’ll start to mend the gap that separates us.

I know that these type of “christians” exist, but I have never had the opportunaty to meet one who would say those things to my face. Could be because I am 6’5" and 255lbs. 😃 Seriously though, I wouldn’t let it bother you. Christ was ridiculed so how is it that we would not be? Besides, you can tell a tree by the fruit it bares and it sounds as though that those “christians” must be lemon trees. Our Clergy (the ones that I have met) do not put down other people’s faiths. Let them say what they will. We all know what Church Christ founded and while they measure their denominations by centuries (or less) and the MEN/WOMEN who founded them, ours goes back 2000 years to the Son of the living God.

Whatever people these are… you should not waste your time with them. Even the most hard core fundamentalist can handle a debate without shredding someone. That is unless you are dealing with children. Best bet is to pray for them and find new company.

Don’t mind them. They say somethings which they fully understand. Pray for them for they judge and accuses someone of something which has no truth.

By the way who told them that they will be saved? I think they just broke the commndment of GOD and the teachings of GOD.
