Someone called you a Cannibal!!! Rejoice, my friend! The Early Christains were called the same thing by the Roman Pagans and the Gentiles!!

That’s got to mean we are doing something right! “Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.” (Lk. 6:22-23)

Once again, history repeats itself!!!

God Bless, my friend, and again, Rejoice!

You made my day 👍

I was wondering if other Catholics are treated with such disrespect when discussing religion with others. Also if you have ever heard priests and other clergy speaking with such disrespect when referring to other christian religiuos?
Oh, yeah! When I was coming into The Church, I dealt with all these (except for the donkey one) and a lot more. And still do. From co-workers, “friends”, and worst of all, family. Let it be known you’re Catholic and it’s open season. All PC goes right out the window. We are the last acceptable target for open prejudice, IMO.
I will also say, that I have never heard a priest make any hateful remark about our seperated bretheren. Not to say it’s never happened, just that I have never heard it.

I agree that there is open prejudice against the catholic church and that it is accepted and politically correct. Not even the orthodox recieve such verbal abuse and they are almost exactly the same as us.

i also second that I have never heard a priest openly condemn other denominations.

I’ve heard folks call Catholics satan worshippers from quite a ways back.

It’s pretty scandalous and just shows how ignorant some folks are.

Bishop Sheen used to say, many people hate what they “think” the Catholic Church is. But no one hates what it really is.

The Catholic Church is none other than the bride of Jesus Christ. It is the Church, Christ Himself established starting with St. Peter, and succeeded by almost 2000 years of more popes.

We know we do not worship Satan, and when folks falsely accuse us of these hateful things, I just remind myself of what Jesus says, “Leap for joy when folks hate you and speak all manner of evil against you for My names sake, for great is your reward in Heaven”

I grew up in the “deep south”…surrounded by the very people you speak of. Can’t even begin to remember the number of times one of these “christians” asked me to show them my tail or 3rd eye… and accused me of being a satan worshipper. I realized quickly that the problem was this: Fools taught by fools, who had been taught by fools, who had been taught by fools. Brought me to the conclusion that God really loved fools…because he made enough of them. 😃

Here’s how I tended to silence them: I would look them in the eye and shout…while pointing directly at them: GET THEE BACK SATAN IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST Its kind of “protestant” sounding and it would leave them dumbstruck. Worked lots of times 👍

The other thing you can do is look them in the eye and say “Thats so very christian of you” and walk away. And don’t look back.

i have heard non-catholics bash catholics, and i have heard many priests and lay persons bashing protestants (as well as non-Christian religions). there is plenty of protestant bashing on these forums (as well as catholic bashing from our separated brethren). it definitely goes both ways.

Bengal_Fan, sadly you are right. I know I’ve been guilty of defending the faith a little bit too vigorously, too. I’ve got to admit I’ve never heard a Catholic Priest bash any other religion while delivering his homily, as I’ve heard numerous times on the flip-side. You’ve got to understand what it feels like to have something you love being ridiculed (Well, maybe you do, after all you are a Bengal Fan!:D). Wow, that was uncharitable, too.

Back to my point, when someone says this, all you can do is Thank God for giving you the chance to forgive someone today!

The funniest I got was from my nan
(After I explain I’m joining the Catholic Church)
Nan: ‘But Catholics worship Mary, don’t they?’
Me: ‘Um, no…’

But also when I first started attending mass, my mum wasn’t too keen about me becoming a Catholic, she would always say random things about the sex abuse scandal (about which she knew barely anything) and tell me there were lots of other ‘perfectly good’ churches near where we live.

I’ve come close to being cursed - or maybe I was cursed. I’ve forgotten 😃

That’s the trouble with religion: we can worked-up enough to hate because of it - but not to love instead of hating. :crying: ##

I also have been called every name in the book by Evangelicals.

Just remember what Jesus said “no one comes to me evcept the Father draw him”. These people are to be pittied.

I don’t think we should pray for them. The Bible says that you should talk to them once or twice them treat them like a tax collector.
I think you misunderstand the Scripture there. The Bible never says to stop praying for people, even tax collectors. Remember, we are to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

you are right but if you try to post a thread to a non catholic forum you can see the difference. Here we just defend what they are saying to us while in there they are accusing us of different things and sad to say only a few catholics are defending the CC.

WOrse, to me, are casual comments by ex Catholics.

My neighbor had some friends over. This young woman-a friend of my neighbors- had a nominal Catholic upbringing. She was telling me that her own neighbor didn’t know much about the bible and that she understood because she used not to know much about the bible either because she had been brought up Catholic. Um…I had just met this young woman, so it was difficult to know what to say. I think that I stared at her, dumbfounded by the remark. The conversation turned to different things and I lost my opportunity to correct her.

Maybe a month later. An older woman was discussing how her church had treated her badly after her divorce. The same young woman spoke up and said something to the effect that the older woman must have attended a Catholic church. The older woman assured her that it was a Baptist church. The younger woman looked confused and was silent for the rest of the conversation.

The nature of man is sinful, and people attack what they don’t know. This is a sin that catholics and non-catholics have, just keep reading some of these postings.
We all need prayer.

Yes, but I am partly thankful for it, because after being attacked by non catholic christians I have really looked into my faith and read the bible and have discovered the Catholic church for the first time.
