Without more information on what you read, only general remarks are possible: Venial sin weakens our relationship with God, making us more vulnerable to mortal sin; but it does not break our relationship with God. Venial sins can be forgiven by a worthy reception of Communion; mortal sins must first be absolved in the sacrament of reconciliation. While confessing venial sins is a good spiritual practice, it is not strictly required. If the matter of a venial sin does not qualify as grave, a venial sin does not morph into a mortal sin by intention alone.
