Once again, it is unnecessary. That is the key point. Unless you can show that the Eucharistic Adoration has to be there first evangelization, then taking any risk of ridicule is invalidated.

The Eucharist builds the faith of the believer. Not the unbeliever.

Unless one can show that it is an absolute necessity, then there is really no argument for taking the Eucharist first to an event that may lead to ridicule.

God Bless 🙂
I reverted back to the Church thanks to a profound experience at Eucharistic Adoration. In my eight years of working locally in town with Life Teen I have seen a large number of teens come back to the Church thanks to Eucharistic Adoration. As a Catechist I have seen the power of Jesus Christ working through the hearts of those on the journey to Rome, the ache in their heart when they are on the outside after learning the truth, and the joys they have when they are home (in one such case a gentleman, after converted, did a year on NET Ministries),

Sorry mate, but IMHO you’re off the mark on this one.

Oh, and “Unless you can show that the Eucharistic Adoration has to be there first evangelization, then taking any risk of ridicule is invalidated”? Dude, Protestants and JW’s think we’re worshiping a piece of bread! We (and Jesus) are being ridiculed already just for the belief, let alone the practice.

How about the miracle of Saint Anthony of Padua and the donkey?

I’m not really sure how I feel about the video. In some ways, it is a wonderful thing to see random people kneel down in the middle of the street and face ridicule. Who knows what lapsed Catholics may have been touched by that and may go to mass for the first time in years.

As for Non-Catholics? I don’t know if they would see that as anything but idolatry. Who knows?

By all means, yes, put yourself in ridicule for Christ. Go out and preach for him etc. Have adoration publicly at a fixed designated place where faithful gather.

But don’t get him ridiculed by doing random stuff like this and in the process. That is needless. I think its immoral to do so unless there is no other way. Since this location has enough churches in the surrounding, there is NO NECESSITY to engage in such random acts. Hence it is questionable and immoral. That was my point.

God Bless 🙂
Immoral ?
Do you even realize Christ willfully allowed himself to be scourged, beaten, and spat upon for our salvation ?

You are on the verge of dishonoring the Holy Martyrs.

Take a look around. This sort of thing is as necessary today as it was during the days of the Apostles.

But you are attacking a straw man here. I am not against Eucharistic Adoration. I am all for it.

I am only against this particular form of practice.

Well, you seem to be a bit off on understanding what exactly I am attacking 🙂

???

Maybe you need to understand what I am saying first.
  1. Does Eucharist need to be there for adoration as a required necessity for Evangelizing?
The answer is no. One can preach and ask the people to go to the chapel for adoration. There is a reason why there are moments of silence in Eucharistic Adoration. That is for contemplation and meditation. Do you seriously want me to believe that such possibilities are present in this middle of the square random “adoration”?

God Bless 🙂

Yes

And how about the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano ?

You are overreacting and making it look like a joke in the process.

No, this sort of thing is not necessary. What is necessary is people doing the hard thing i.e. Going to be unbelievers and explaining to them why they should believe in God and Jesus Christ and the Church. Thats hard. That requires commitment and love.

Just taking Sacramental and Sacraments and shoving them in peoples faces is not going to get people to appreciate religion.

God Bless 🙂

God bless the Capuchins for doing this. Seeds were planted in those people who saw our Lord. This will inspire any Catholic or lapsed Catholic to devoting himself to the Lord more. As for caring what those non-catholics say? Who cares! Being in the presence of the Lord will never be fruitless, Catholic or Non Catholic.

Who cares? Wasn’t the whole point to evangelize?

Christ came for the sick.

I said who cares if they think we are fools for doing this in public. If they chose not to believe there isnt much we can do except to keep trying. The Lord touched non believers who welcomed him and to those who did not open their heart to Him, well we can only pray and we shouldnt worry if we look like fools trying to convert them. That is what i meant by “who cares?”. Of course we should care for their souls 😃

But that is not a random event though. As far as I understand, it was a miracle that happened in response to a test.

What I am specifically opposed to here is not the Adoration of the Eucharist. I am very much for it. What I am against here is the problems caused due to this sort of randomness in events like in the video.

It’s possible for someone who is going through war, grief or a sickness to self- trigger ones lapsed faith in God as a result of the experience, right? But that does not mean we need to pursue such means of giving grief to trigger their faith.

Same here. That is why I said unless it is a necessity to have the Eucharistic Adoration in such a RANDOM way for the good of souls, then one must not pursue it.
As for Non-Catholics? I don’t know if they would see that as anything but idolatry. Who knows?
Exactly, we don’t know what they will feel and there is no guarantee that seeing the Eucharist is going to make them convert. So we must try the conventional methods. Nothing beats a good conversation between two friends explaining to the other ones faith. That is the way to spread faith, with love, reason and bringing the convert to a meditative prayer life.

A “non-believer” who willingly goes to seek, can certainly go to Adoration in a chapel, spend time in meditation and hear God’s voice. But out in the street like this? I am not so sure even that benefit is there anymore.

God Bless 🙂

A Catholic answer. Well said.
:clapping:

What part of I am not against Adoration don’t you get?

Stop attacking a straw man. I am against the sort of thing that happens with RANDOM FLASHING of Eucharist adoration.

Lanciano was not a Random Adoration session btw.

God Bless 🙂
Sorry, but I don’t see any indication you are changing the views of anyone here. Even the regulars here who disagree on most every topic agree that this effort by the Friars bore good fruit. And it was planned. I don’t think the Friar holding the Monstrance just grabbed the bag and started walking, and another Friar randomly decided to grad a portable PA and follow him.

You are welcome to your opinion. We just have to agree we disagree.

As for Non-Catholics? I don’t know if they would see that as anything but idolatry. Who knows?
Good point, but the Friar speaking makes it clear it is Our Lord being worshiped, not the host itself.

I understand you totally, I just disagree.

I would argue “yes”, carrying Christ to the lost is needed and should be done more often.

What you say is “random” could be planned through the Will of God.

I am not a big fan of agreeing to disagree when the other side does not provide much argument.

All you’ve done here is state a subjective opinion that “many here seem to agree with you”. Well thats good if you are running a popularity contest but other than that, I am afraid you have not provided sufficient reason to believe you.

Just a word of advice, a educated non-believer will judge you by your ability to explain to them your faith rationally. If you can’t even explain to a believer like me how it is justified to have the Eucharist outside randomly in a possible situation of ridicule when it is not an ultimate necessity, you are really not going to have much success.

God Bless 🙂

I honestly don’t get this form of argument. I can say the world is flat and no matter what you say I disagree. But that really doesn’t help much for my position, right?
I would argue “yes”, carrying Christ to the lost is needed and should be done more often.
Sure, that’s nice, but state the arguments. Just saying you would argue is not going to help me or you.
What you say is “random” could be planned through the Will of God.
Oook then.

Honestly, there are certain things that are fixed. In this case, we know the Eucharist is Christ and we must treat that with utmost reverence.

We also know that for proper adoration with the aim of conversion, requires quiet meditation in front of the Eucharist. That is not going to happen in the middle of a bustling street.

So as far as reason goes, there is NO valid reason to have such RANDOM Eucharistic Adoration events.

One can’t go and do things immoral and claim that they did it because God told them to. God certainly told him to go out and evangelize. That’s what he should be doing in that square.

God Bless 🙂

I have explained it. A couple of Friars decided to build some faith and they did so.I found great joy in watching this video.🙂

And it was not random. The Friars knew what they were up to as they hit the streets.

Ddarko,

Take a look a the video again. It really is quite beautiful; and the majority of people were not ridiculing the adoration.

If only one seed was planted, that would be enough.

Sure sure, that specific video at times is nice apart from the beginning where he throws down the Eucharist at his feet.

But I am really not arguing specifics. There can always be exceptions to the norm. It could be that a priest walks in to a mall with the Eucharist and the entire mall goes down on knees etc. Possible, yes, is the practice necessary, NO, is it guaranteed to always be such positive reactions, NOOO.

That is my point here. No need to do generally pointless and needless things. It only builds more hate honestly and it can be confusing even to believers. Not to mention the possibility of offending some.

If its a routinely designated place, then by all means its valid and good. People know whats going on and any Catholic can participate without suspicion. But otherwise no matter how beautiful it maybe, no. It can get just as ugly if some in the crowd decided to heckle or call the Police etc.

God Bless 🙂
