Interesting that the
Catholic mass is really all about transubstationation.
Or the divine liturgy.

To created the body and blood of the God Jesus.

Where the non catholic service
. is all about
worship fellowship prophetic teaching .and relationship’s. And decipleship.
Teaching the How to’s . of
Praying etc etc

Yes its a different system. With different personal results.

Going to mass is the sum total for catholics.
Believing you are receiving the devine real presence.
Yes it is a different religious reality.

Because all of those things you mentioned can be done outside of the Mass… the Mass’ purpose is to make Christ present upon the altar

Yes. I would just disagree about “creating the body and blood of Christ”, it is more making present the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Christ, who is.

Yes . you are right . teaching can be done out side of the mass.
The mass is a spiritual application of scripture. And sacrifice.

Proclaiming the word of God is what a church is there to do, in the view of many Protestants. In other words, the sermon is the meat in the sandwich. Everything else is secondary – in a supporting role, as they say in Hollywood.

The celebrant of the mass is Christ. The Priest acts in persona Christi - in the person of Christ. This capacity is recorded in the scriptures: check 2 Corinthians 2:10 in either the King James or the Douay-Rheims bibles and see where Paul forgave the sins of others in the Person of Christ. To bless and break the bread is a command; “Do this, as often as you do it” entering into the Sacrifice as a remembrance in the Jewish tradition - not merely symbolism.

The mass is a re-presentation of the sacrifice on Calvary - making that sacrifice present to us in a non-bloody manner. Catholics and Orthodox do not “re-sacrifice” Christ. First, that is impossible. Second, He did not command it. Yet, when He instituted the “New Testament” in the upper room, He specifically used sacrificial language.

Here is something that few Christians seem to know: the book that the world knows as the New Testament is called that solely because Christ referred to the institution of the Holy Eucharist as the “New Testament.” Te Apostles and disciples gathered on the Lord’s day to celebrate the Holy Eucharist - Paul writes very clearly about this in 1 Corinthians.

Since the radical re-invention of the faith in 16th century Europe, all of this has passed away. Yet, Christ taught no such thing as worship “services”, as there is no worship of God without sacrifice. Christ never taught bible alone - or bible anything, as far as that goes. In fact, Christ never taught any of the uniquely Protestant beliefs or actions. Not a single one.

Rather, Christ sent Apostles (“He who hears you hears Me” - Luke 10:16) accompanied by the Holy Spirit. You might read the oldest known “catechism” of the early, apostolic Church, the Didache. In it is instructions for those in the early Church. Kindly note there is not a single peep about writing or scripture of any kind.

In that Didache you will find the origins of the nascent Church. Yet, the scriptures are added to it, a win-win. We are constantly amazed at the faith of our separated Protestant brothers, and the good that they do. Yet, when we gather with them, whatever activity they enter into feels decidedly empty. I hope that you will understand why.

The mass, the Holy Eucharist - Christ Sacramentally present to us - is the source and summit of the Christian faith. The bible is not.

Yes - for catholics . the Eucharist- is the sourse of all . and for most spirituality it ends there.

dann: Going to mass is the sum total for catholics.

Not sure where you got this (wrong) idea.
The Eucharistic is the source and summit, which we receive at mass, so in that way it is a summit of the Christian life. As for sum total, there are many parts which go beyond the Eucharist, so it isn’t technically everything in the strict sense.

Exactly.

Summit = highest point
Sum Total = the whole, or the final amount of the whole

1ke,

From the CCC (emphasis mine)

1324 The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” "The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.”

1407 The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.

2031 The moral life is spiritual worship. We “present [our] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God,” within the Body of Christ that we form and in communion with the offering of his Eucharist. In the liturgy and the celebration of the sacraments, prayer and teaching are conjoined with the grace of Christ to enlighten and nourish Christian activity. As does the whole of the Christian life, the moral life finds its source and summit in the Eucharistic sacrifice.

How about thinking of transubstantiation as something that happens to us as well? Isn’t that the point of the sacrament? To change us?

Keep in mind that many/most Catholics are not preoccupied with physical activity. You note that many other denominations are - in some cases, it seems to be all that they do. Our Lord showed us that a deep interior life is greatly to be desired. Praying behind closed doors is the ideal. None of us sees that, and so it may appear that many Catholics do nothing. Au contraire! Prayer is the first and most frequent thing we should do. This world is not messed up for lack of activity - rather, it suffers from a lack of prayer.

Activism, which is a preoccupation with physical activity rather than prayer or mental reflection, ‘can’ be the mark of someone with a substandard interior life. Some are simply driven to “do something” - but prayer is most certainly doing something, or else why would our Lord have withdrawn into prayer on so many occasions?

NOTE: For those who will disagree, please see the qualifiers in my post.

That’s true, it’s what is called deification or theosis, becoming more like God. You become what you eat.

Again, the Eucharist is the source and summit. It is not the “sum total” of Catholic life.

Please stop trying to make ‘sum total’ mean something it doesn’t.

I’m thinking, What part of the following highlighted text, is not covered in “sum total”?

The Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life. It is not the “sum total” of Christian life. There is more to Christian life than the Eucharist.

Do you know what source and summit means?

Let’s put this a bit differently

As far as hierarchy of things go in Jesus mind Luke 14:26 RSVCE - “If any one comes to me and does not - Bible Gateway

What does that mean? It means to love Jesus first over EVERYTHING else, and everything else is less. So the Eucharist is first. NOTHING surpasses it. The summit is the highest point. Everything else is below it.
