Thank you everyone for all the helpful responses! After doing a review of all filters, I installed www.safeeyes.com. It got 5 stars out of 5. It’s $50.00 a year, blocks all porn, nudity, etc. Told my son, I have to install it on his laptop or he cannot use it-so I did. YAY!!
Now I feel totally comfortable that all the smut just cannot be looked at on our computers!!!

I highly recommend it!!!

There is a free one called we-blockers.

Also if you use trend micro’s virus protection you can filter for porn, drugs, etc…

However, cybersentinel will actually look at the screen and block much more. It will even handle swearing on IM.

One other thing, if you have cable and have a router, you can filter right at the router so all computers in your home are filtered.

If he is downloading it off a p2p(filesharing) network like kazaa or gnuttella lite theres no way of blocking the adult files. If he is downloading from a browser you can use “Netnanny” (google it).
You can block those ports which gnulleta and kazaa run on if you have a router-based firewall.

I also recommend limiting the time spent on the computer to maybe one hour per night or something like that

Pornography addiction often stems from another precursor. Maybe you guys could talk to him? Don’t just tell him pornography is bad… but ask him what he’s lacking in his life that he thinks will fill with images of naked women. I am 21 – and a few years ago I OFTEN viewed pornography. Once I got a part time job and started doing some other activities to fill my time, I often didn’t care about it. In our society temptation will always be there, and you can’t block it forever.

I’ve used BSafe for about 5 years. It is a proxy so you basically surf through BSafe’s servers and they do the filtering there. So basically you can’t get around it on your local machine. You can selectively restrict content and access to services like chat, limewire, Kazaa, etc. It can be a bit restrictive at times, but I’ve been very happy with it.

There are two versions, one allows you to enter a password and allow access to the blocked content on a case by case basis. The other just blocks it and you have no ability to override it. That version is for folks who feel they can’t avoid the temptation and would be prone to override the filter.

I’ve heard that AOLs content filters are pretty decent, but I’ve never cared for AOL. I pay enough for broadband without paying them on top of it.

For what it’s worth, I also use a spam blocker called Spamrival (www.spamrival.com)). It is a challenge-response approach. I know, I know, lot’s of people don’t like CR blockers and I appreciate the objections. But it works for me. I haven’t gotten a spam message in years.

I also run the Microsoft Beta verison of their antispyware product (free at microsoft.com) as well as another antispyware sniffer called Spybot - Search and Destroy. Also free. And I use a free antivirus program from Grisoft (www.grisoft.com)).

I know, I’m cheap. 👍 But BSafe and SpamRival cost money (BSafe is about $40 a year, and SR is about $15. Worth it to me to protect my kiddies.

.
if u block the ports you might aswell delete the whole program.

You can use **NetDog Internet Filter **: netdogsoft.com , netdog blocks all those “bad websites” quitely and automatically in the background when anyone’s on the computer. You can set a password in NetDogAdmin.exe, None will be able to remove it without passwords.
