I think a good answer to intrusive questions is to say, “You sure ask a lot of questions.” That puts it back in their court.

But if they want to talk politics, I think you should engage with them and convert them to your political beliefs.

Don’t worry. If you hold an opinion that is more to the right than theirs, they will never bother you again.

Or, in today’s culture with its intolerant mindset, they might start targeting you and making life unpleasant for you.

If you wish to discuss politics with anyone, today, be sure to find out in advance which side they’re on, and if they basically agree with you, go ahead and talk. If not, stay quiet. It has become dangerous to express opposing points of view.

The hard core will never be convinced of anything other than their position.

Op could just say “politics are complex”. And leave it be. If the other presses…”I’m not one for these issues tbh…I’m a sports man”. Or “I spend more time in the garden “… Keep repeating as needed until the other party gets the picture. If they don’t could make an excuse and head out,
