Invalid Confession? Mentioned after absolution

I confessed two occasions where I mortally sinned, and there was a third sin which was relevant to my mortal sin, but I wasn’t sure if I should mention it. I mentioned it after my priest granted me absolution, and he gave me absolution. I want to trust that it counted, but I’m still skeptical. If someone who specializes in this area can answer this, I’d greatly appreciate it.

You seem to have answered your own question. Trust your priest and be at peace. If you are still worried, then ask him about it next time.

The condition for confession is that, you mention all your sins and not hiding it,and you have done it,be at peace. if you feel that bad. for your conscience sake and peace of mind,there is nothing wrong in mentioning it, in your next confession.

Best to talk to Father about it. If you honestly forgot, then the absolution would seem to be valid. If you intentionally omitted the sin, it likely invalidated the entire confession.

Note the terms “seem” and “likely” - they are not absolutes.

Your question has already been answered by the priest who you mentioned it to, in the sacrament. It doesn’t matter that you mentioned it after the absolution. He would be well aware of that, and gave you no further action on the matter. That is the same as him saying “I’ve heard it. It’s part of this confession. You don’t have to do anything more about it”. Trust him.

I too have done the same in the past and wondered about it especially when the forgotten sin is mortal. I’ve also forgotten about sins until right after the moment absolution was granted.

My belief now (from talking to more than one priest) is as long as you didn’t try to deceive your confessor by deliberately omitting the sin in order to be granted absolution - then your confession is valid.
