CIA couple outed by 5-year-old son
HOUSTON (Reuters) - The Washington couple at the heart of the CIA leak investigation had their cover blown by their small son as they tried to sneak away on vacation on Thursday.
“My daddy’s famous, my mommy’s a secret spy,” declared the 5-year-old of his parents, former diplomat Joe Wilson and retired CIA operative Valerie Plame.

The former spy, who just retired from the agency, and the diplomat have been at the center of a CIA leak scandal that has reached into the White House.

They said they were headed to an undisclosed vacation location with their twins but stopped for a brief interview inside the airport terminal.

A special prosecutor has indicted Lewis “Scooter” Libby, a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, for lying in the investigation and has opened a second grand jury.

Plame’s cover at the CIA was blown after her husband accused the Bush administration of twisting prewar intelligence to support military action against Iraq. Wilson said it was deliberately intended to undercut his credibility.

Wilson said he does not know how the current investigation was progressing and has only spoken to the special prosecutor twice, most recently in late September.

Plame would not be interviewed and stood out of hearing distance with the other twin.

Wilson said his wife’s retirement allows her to spend more time with the soon to be 6-year-olds. “She enjoyed her career there,” Wilson said of the CIA.

Jimmy, be quiet. MOMMY IS UNDERCOVER!!!
It alos shows how big Joe Wilsomns ego is-how does a 5 year old leadn that her Fatrher is “important” and her Mother was a secret spy? My kids never have realized I am important! http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon7.gif

Yeah, someone may be a big shot at work, but when they get home they are merely (or should be merely) “Daddy” and “Mommy”.

If the kidlet knows they are big shots then the big shots are talking too much and using the self-important words a tad too much.

Making fun of Joe and/or Valerie Wilson doesn’t change the facts:
  1. Joe Wilson was accurate in his assessment of “yelowcake from Niger.”
  2. Valerie Wilson was an undercover asset of the CIA, whose cover was blown by Bush administration officials for political reasons.
Mocking the Wilsons, making fun of their parenting, etc., cannot change these facts. It also cannot really hurt the Wilsons. That kind of sin hurts the sinners much more than it hurts their targets.

His assessment was in error as verified by British intelligence. There is no proof whatsoever that “Valerie Wilson was an undercover asset of the CIA, whose cover was blown by Bush administration officials for political reasons.”

There is lots of evidence however that Val’s employment was known by lots of ordinary people.

You are incorect on both accounts. Per the 9-11 report Joe Wilson trip to Niger BOLSTERED the reports that Iraq tired to buy Yellow Cake from Nigeria.

Peter Fitzgerald found that Valerie Wilson was not an undercover operative for the CIA-she had not been out of the country for over 5 years and her CIA employment was widely know.

Sorry to confuse the issue with facts

I stand by my statements…

And I’m saddened that no respondent has bothered to address my point – which wasn’t about the details of the Plame case (which I understand we’re going to disagree about!), but about the decidely unChristian posts in this thread.

You have no comment on that?

You are absolutely right about Valerie Plame. Her husband often bragged that his wife worked for the CIA and the Washington corps knew that–substantiated by friend who is in the Washington corps.

We are commenting on the delicious irony of Joe Wilsons 5 year old outing his wife. Christians are allowed to have a sense of humor and this is hillarious.

I’m more saddened by our media’s treating the “outing” of a CIA agent, whose neighbors knew of her CIA status BTW, as an outrage, while at the same time they sweep the leaking of NSA’s wiretapping, an issue of national security, under the carpet.

This is the same media that revealed the military was monitoring the conversations of Al Quaeda operatives because they were using a certain type of cell phone. That immediately ended the use of this cell phone by the operatives. Did the media think an apology was necessary? Naw! They were too busy telling us Bush was going to Iraq for the oil!

Notworthy

Great. Don’t let the facts get in the way of your opinion.

I’ve heard all of this before… yet I’m still curious as to why Libby was indicted? I know Fitzgerald probably wanted to get someone indicted to show that this whole thing wasn’t a rouse…

He was indicted becuase he allegedly lied to the Grand Jury-same thing Clinton was impeached for. In effect Fitzgerald says he lied to cover up an action that was not a crime.

Hope that is not the case, but if it is, too bad. Sorry to see it happen.

Before we get all excited about Val Plame, etal, I am much more concerned about investigation who leaked the intelligence on wire taps for national security. Me thinks that borders on treason. Can’t wait for the radical libs on the forum to excuse this one away.

He was indicted for obstruction of justice as well as allegedly lying to a grand jury. I’m not implying a conspiracy theory here, just noting that the administration isn’t above having some whackos in it. It’s very possible Lewis could have leaked the information to the press on his own. I have not read anything in the past that has stated people knew about this before the Robert Novak story, could be wrong though.

Ditto on that, but if Lewis Libby did indeed out Plame, then that borders on treason as well. This is not just a Dem V Rep thing (I myself border on a conservative-libertarian philosophy, but I’m registered Republican and voted for Bush). If someone in any administration did indeed knowingly leak the name of a CIA agent, covert or not, then that borders on treason. However, seeing as he wasn’t charged with that, we’ll let the courts decide his fate, and if he’s innocent as he claims he is, then he will be exonerated. We need to look at the bigger picture here, every administration has its ups and its downs. Not one of them is perfect, which is why they’re out in 4 or 8 years.

Well, I’m apparently a “radical lib” – I suggest we wait and see where this information came from, and also wait until the courts (e.g., not Bush’s AG) determine the legality of ignoring FISA “in time of war.”

If the actions of the administration are determined to have been violations of the law, then what we are looking at – under the law – is not “leaking” but “whistleblowing.” That is not criminal.

We’re going to have to wait and see.

In the meantime, if you’ll agree not to refer to people as “radical libs,” we’ll refrain from using equivalently nasty pejoratives about conservatives in referring to you. (I’m not even going to give examples; you know what they are). Namecalling doesn’t do much to advance discussion.

As we can see from earlier president’s actions, what this administration has done IS legal (in regards to wiretapping and consistent with FISA). In forming an opinion you need to look back in time, and not just through the lense of the New York Times.
