**Des Moines, IA (LifeNews.com) – **Iowa-based St. Ambrose University, a Catholic college, is under fire from pro-life advocates in the Midwestern state for honoring an abortion advocate. The school awarded what one pro-life group called “one of Iowa’s most notorious abortion activists” with an honorary degree.

At the St. Ambrose graduation ceremony on Sunday, school officials handed an honorary degree to Margaret (“Maggie”) Tinsman, a former state senator in Iowa from 1989-2006.

Does anyone at these colleges take the time to actually research who they are “honoring”??? Or do they just draw a name out of a hat??

Paul

I hope someone with details reports this to the Newman Society, that indeed looks into all of these allegations of inappropriate speakers. For sure this one certainly was.

Here we go again - another Catholic university honoring someone or something which flies straight in the face of Church teachings. Do the presidents of our Catholic universities have any sense at all?

If you ask me, this so called “Catholic” university deserves to be “bashed” for doing such a thing. This is disgusting behavior from a so called “Catholic” university. Lord have mercy!

Well, it’s not surprising when you remember that St. Ambrose University is in the diocese of Davenport, Iowa which had to declare bankruptcy after the numerous abuse cases that went to court. During the seven years that my family and I lived in that diocese, we had the displeasure of seeing columns by dissidents like Fr. Richard McBrien in the diocesan newspaper each week. It’s sad but true that they are reaping what was sown in the past. My heart goes out to all of the faithful Catholics who have been scandalized repeatedly by their leaders.

If I recall correctly…

I think that Karl Keating in 2006 mentioned in a forum that most Catholic colleges/universities only become “CATHOLIC” when it comes to asking for money.

Yeah and that is very sad. It does seem that many “Catholic” universities are Catholic in name only. 😦
