vern humphrey:
The only “bigotry” I have seen addressed to you is a calm refutation of the idea that Northern Ireland is not part of Ireland.
Pondero, you are escalating. Please stand down. The rest of you (today that would be grotto and Vern) if you continue to feed this standoff, the moderator may decide to close this thread. I would not want that. I am very grateful for the retraint shown by most, the forwarding information they have posted, and the good fun we have had. I am looking forward to much more of the same on this thread.

Thank you for that. We stand rebuked.

I would like to hear the views of a Northern Ireland Protestant because you folks are like the Borg on StarTrek, “We are one”

Reminds me of the Irish immigrants who tried to make a living taking in each other’s washing.

Stop patting each other on the back and listen to an opposing view for a change, you might learn something.
I find your post offensive, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at-all.
The bottom line is there wouldn’t be an IRA, INLA, UDA, UVF, UFF, BOMBS MURDER AND MAYHEM, if England had kept their noses out of our country.
I have been reserved but you are an ex-service man and aren’t going to say diddly squat nice on this thread.
England created the IRA, and all those others I’ve mentioned, if you want to be rude or start mud slinging then I’m going no-where unless the mods close this or kick me off.
How many countries have they (gb) stuck their interfearing nose in ? too many, and even the USA had to kick them out, they aren’t Great Britain anymore, more like great britain (gb)
I do wonder why you never got on with those other Irish people ?

This thread is actually the first one you have really taken an interest in on Catholic Answers. At one point, after whining about being told off (a pattern apparently for you) on the BBC board and on the Sparrows board (both British message boards), you said that you didn’t think you would like Catholic Answers, in spite of it being Catholic because you preferred the company of the English. Both the BBC and Sparrows will bend over backwards to accommodate your preferences.

Projective identification. The Borg said, “We will assimilate you. Resistance is futile.” They never said, “We are one.” Do the math.

Do you have an arsenal of racist comments where you got that one from? Notice I said ‘racist’ not ‘anti-Catholic’ because – as was predictable all along – your reference was to the Irish and not to the Catholics. As I recall you were quite unpleasant with one of the Sparrows founders – an extremely learned gentleman – while we were all on the BBC board. To the extent that he did not want to have anything further to do with you when you followed us to h2g2. He was willing to get along so that we could set up Sparrows and because we asked him to. You however…sheesh, it was like pulling hen’s teeth.

Start relating to what we have posted, instead of tautologizing, lecturing, and evading our points by appeals to anecdotes about your self-absorbed encounters with the Irish. I gather you have had unpleasant experiences ‘discussing’ evolution on the BBC boards. And I gather Sparrows has been closed for repairs. So you have landed here. As I have explained to you before, Catholic Answers has a lot of different levels for all sorts of different folks, interests, and abilities. I didn’t start out on the News forum.

I started out in the Water Cooler and then cautiously moved into Apologetics and then into News. The difference between Catholic Answers and the BBC is that Catholic Answers is somewhere where a person can learn some rigour and discipline about how to apply Catholic scholarship, whereas the BBC is a freeforall of opinion and insider groups. If you want some respect on Catholic Answers, then pay your dues like the rest of us did by respecting those with more experience.

But oh no. You want to drop straight into the News forum and challenge at least one poster who is absolutely renowned on CA for his learnedness: Vern. You have made some quite offensive remarks for which you have apologized and then gone straight on to repeat your behaviour. I have asked you to stand down. You have refused. I have put you on my ignore list and find I now have to take you off again because you have succeeded in drawing Vern and Stiofan into your continued disruption of this thread.

There is no point in reminding you that the moderator may choose to close this thread if this ‘dispute’ continues. In my opinion, and unless someone persuades me otherwise, your contribution to this thread has all the hallmarks of a scorched earth policy. I am not persuaded that you care if the thread is closed. Whereas several of us, I am sure, do care.

Your obstinacy in not standing down is unhelpful, unfriendly, and seeks status over others where none has been earned. All of this could have been avoided in a very simple fashion: you could have put your evolution books down for a few minutes and taken the trouble to do the neighbourly thing which is read up on Irish history.

You will get no further attention from me. And frankly this sorry encounter has done nothing to allay my reservations concerning peace for the six. Pat yourself on the back.

OK, folks I am going to close this thread with a warning to all. It is obvious that some of you have some bad feelings for each other after encounters on the BBC forum and other forums. On this forum everyone starts fresh and we only ask you abide by our forum guidelines. If you do so I will not have any problems with your posts.

I suggest everyone be very familiar with the forum guidelines.

If you have any questions please contact me privately. God bless.
