Tehran - The Iranian clergy plans to hold a protest demonstration against Pope Benedict XVI, the Fars news agency reported Saturday.
The country’s clergy seminary centre said in a statement carried by Fars that in protest of the pope’s remarks on Islam, a demonstration will be held Sunday morning in Qom, the country’s Islamic heart, 135 kilometres south of the capital Tehran.
The statement added that all seminaries will be closed Sunday, and that all students were called to attend the demonstration. The decision to hold a demonstration was taken before the pope expressed regret over his remarks on Islam.
