Ireland’s first married deacons ordained

I am wondering if there are married deacons here in the Far East.
 
What is reason prohibiting ordained single deacons from marrying after ordaination?

And if a married deacon should become a widower, why can’t he remarry?

They are, after all, not priests. And if the idea was to help priests by having deacons, why prohibit them from marrying?

St. Lawrence was a deacon. I do not remember deacons prior to 1960. Why were they used earlier and not again until Vatican II?
 
It is the norm for all levels of clergy to remain celibate (unmmarried), however, this has been relax for the permanent diaconate. Some deacons are allowed to remarry with a proper dispensation, for instance if he becomes a widower with young children to care for.

However, it is otherwise simply an expected part of the vocation that one will devote his entire life to the service of the Church should his wife predecease him.

And it would be rare for a dicoesse to allow a married man with young children into the diaconate.

When my kids were young I had applied. They asked me to wait and I did and was I glad I did.

Teenage girls are enough to deal with without the responsibilities of being a deacon. 😃
