Right, let them form a public secular education like the US and see how wonderful things go in Ireland.

This archbishop should be chastised and if the Irish have any sense, they will leave their school system as it stands. It is a Catholic nation so anyone who attends their schools will just have to put up with it and then deal with issues in their own home or else send their children to private schools.
