Irish embassy to the Vatican to be closed

It’s more likely to do with the current Irish government’s generally antagonistic attitude to the Holy See, including a blistering and unfounded attack on the Holy See’s involvement in recent child abuse problems in Ireland.

The government claims it is being closed because of cost-cutting measures; why, then is it maintaining an Embassy in Lesotho?
 
Try not to overthink this action. My understanding, I think from a former thread here, is that the embassy to the Vatican is closing since the Italian Irish embassy is within a few blocks. Consolidation is probably for economic reasons. Do a search of threads for “Irish Embassy to Vatican” or some such.

More likely, it is tit-for-tat in response to the Vatican’s recall of their representative to Ireland, in response to some angry stateements from Irish government officials. :hmmm:

But most likely it is part of the anger and disgust sweeping Ireland over the huge moral lapses of the Church in Ireland. :mad:

I get the impression that many Catholics on this Forum refuse to even try to understand the deep hurt inflicted on the Irish by the out-of-control Church, :sad_yes:

Priests in Ireland have been subject to unjustifiable wrongs as people have been misled about the level of sexual and physical abuse committed by them, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has said, reports the Irish Times.

I tend to agree. Even if it is overblown, one case is one too many. People absolutely do not tolerate the sexual abuse of children.

Personally, I find it disturbing that when people discuss child abuse in general on the forum, they go nuts. When it occurs within the Church, it seems to get brushed aside or downplayed, with no real anger toward the perpetrator or sorrow for the abused child.
