Nuns and priests wore gags in the Vatican colors as they protested in Dublin against the Catholic church’s latest censorship moves.
A silent vigil outside the Papal Nunciature was held to oppose recent Vatican attempts to silence five high profile clerics

This is so ridiculous I can’t believe it. The Church has every right to decide who speaks for it and who does not. In fact, it has an obligation to do so.

The theologian cannot claim to be Catholic while at the same time going against the doctrines of the Church.

The real people who are “silenced” are faithful Catholics. They are silenced by the press.

How are they silenced? How does the press deny them the right to attend Mass and to receive the Sacraments? Don’t understand your statement at all.

I give up, I really do. I think a group of committed catholic laity would be best placed to remind these liberal nuns and priests about why they took their vows in the first place and the virtue/discipline (?) of obedience to the catholic church and humility.

What exactly are they hoping to achieve, why do they even care? All they should be concerned about is dedicating their lives to God and to helping his flock by whatever means they can. Spending their time pontificating about non-consequentials as to whether priests should marry, women become priests, contraception be allowed is nothing to do with their vocations. They took their vows and are fully aware of what these entailed and I am sure their vows did not include, “if you find anything wrong with the catholic teachings handed down by Jesus, please make every effort to let the Vatican know so that we will change the rules, accordingly”.

I’ve come to the conclusion the whole world’s gone mad.

  1. I think it is a complaint about the view that faithful Catholicism, real Catholicism, is not afforded attention in the media.
  2. The Church silencing someone does not deprive a him of the sacraments.

These extracts from a 1979 homily from the Cardinal Ratzinger put it well:
“To say that someone’s opinion doesn’t correspond to the doctrine of the Catholic church doesn’t mean violating their human rights…”
“Everyone should have the right to freely express their own view, which the Catholic church decisively recognized at Vatican II and still does today. This doesn’t mean, however, that every opinion must be recognized as Catholic.”
These clerics haven’t been silenced, they still have the right to speak, but they can no longer pretend they are speaking on behalf of the Church. Which in my opinion is worth a 👍

“Silenced” was a wrong choice of words. “Not represented” and “unfairly represented” would be more accurate.

“Butler also told the paper that he is aware of four other priests who have been silenced but have chosen to remain anonymous.”

The last word in this quote from the article should have read “obedient.”

Ireland has renegade priests who are supported by equally renegade nuns. They fight the Vatican on many issues - women priests, homosexual unions, marriage after divorce, contraception etc. They belong to The Association of Catholic Priests, which sounds pretty authentic, wouldn’t you agree? Look them up on Google. They are a disgrace and should all be excommunicated. I do not know why they are not

Does it have to be? Should Catholicism be the press’s darling??
Wow that’s a big jump. “Fairly represented” does not equal “darling”.

Nor does it equal being denied the sacraments, as you said in an earlier post. That’s a big discontinuity in thought/subject matter.

The funny thing is that they would protest by covering their mouths. I mean… isn’t it just a little ironic that a NUN would protest against authority? “Oh no, the nuns aren’t able to voice their opinions because they have big mean oppressors that tell them they can’t”

Hmm… isn’t that what YOU SIGNED UP FOR!!!

Hath thou not undertaken an oath of obedience?

Hath

Thou

Not???

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, I pray for your flock in Ireland. Please give them the grace of the Holy Spirit to embrace the call of fealty and obedience to Holy Mother Church. Oh God I do beseech thee not to let this people of Faith fall to heresy as others have. I pray for the intercession of St. Patrick, St. Oliver Plunket, and every single Irish Saint between them. May ye guide my brethren always to the Tabernacle of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen. :signofcross::irish1:Well I know which country to pray for in my Rosary tonight:irish1:

The article has minimal information.I went to the website for We are Church. These are their aims as stated on the website.
  1. Equality of all the baptised where decision making is actively shared by all, with appropriate structures for this.
  2. Full participation of women in all aspects of church life, including priesthood.
  3. Recognition of the primacy of an informed conscience.
  4. Removal of the obligation of clerical celibacy and a positive attitude toward sexuality.
  5. An inclusive church, open and welcoming to all, which does not marginalise its own people, e.g. divorced, in second relationships, those who are gay or lesbian.
Make up your own mind if they are being persecuted.

It goes to show what damage a few disobedient priests can cause, although I think it said only about 200 attended, 200 too many, sadly…

Saint John Viaenny said, " take a pillowcase of feathers and scatter them on a windy day, now go and gather them.

So very hard (if not impossible) to gather, once they’ve been scattered, just like careless words…

I’ll gleefully take the liberty of dissecting their political correct mumbo jumbo speak:

Goals of We Are Church:
  1. Oppose the hierarchy which Jesus Christ founded in Matthew 16:18, and institute presbyters or something similar.
  2. Support the Ordination of Women to the Diaconate, Priesthood, Bishophric, and Papacy.
  3. Allow women to have abortions, their consciences override the law of God.
  4. Support married priests, homosexual priests, and change the Church so that it becomes pro-divorce, pro-adultery, pro-sodomy, pro-contraception, etc.
  5. All are welcome to receive the Eucharist. There is no such thing as “sin”, so we’ll be abolishing the Sacrament of Reconciliation. People are never separated from God by any activity… we should encourage them to live however they want to, God will love them no matter what they do. And because of this all people will go to Heaven because of God’s love. All the parts in the Bible about Hell need to be taken out. And let’s put gender inclusive language in there too.
I have only one thing to say to all of this: get out of the Church and become an Episcopalian or a Presbyterian. Get out of the Church. If you can’t be obedient, get out of the Church. These aren’t Catholics, they’re heretics.

They’re wearing gags? They’re probably being more useful than they have been in awhile then! 😃
