Irwin was never afraid to bring wildlife in close

The only thing i can say Bones…I wish I had as much passion for Jesus and our Holy, Roman Catholic Faith as he had for the critters. The baby was totally a lack of judgment…but his wife must’ve let him. She must have trusted him enough…I still love him so much…what a genuine guy!

Shoshana I don’t know much about him. He seemed like a very interesting dude eh?

Like I said, I wish I had his passion. I have seen his show many times on Discovery over they years going way back 5 years ago. He seems crazy to some (like my father who has since died)…but then so did the first Christians when they were singing going to their death at the Colisseum. I realize they had the grace necessary to do so…but still, I desire Steve’s passion…I want to be possessed by God!

Now, please ask me how this turned into a talk about God? Sorry about the hi-jacking! :o

Remember, he virtually grew up with all these critters. Knew how to approach them, could read their ‘body language’, had years of experience. Most animals, even the crocs, are not randomly violent and give very clear indications of their ‘mood’.

Rest in peace, Steve Irwin. We’ll miss you. May God watch over your family, and give them peace.

I thought him a bit of a prat, however he was enormously popular and particularly with kids.

He was a dedicated lover of the outdoors, was a tremendous boost for Queensland tourism, was a huge supporter of local business around the Beerwah district…

He was a dedicated dad and family man, despite that unfortunate lapse of common sense with his son Bob.

He is sadly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. A life cut short, but he died in harness and I suspect if he had to go this is the sort of way he would have preferred.

A good bloke…rest in peace mate!

Ditto … it was quite a freak accident to be hit in the chest by a stingray, in spite of Germaine Greer seemingly implying to the contrary on tv last night. The man was (I believe) a trained zoologist. In any event he spent his life around critters and probably knew a lot more about what he was doing than Ms Greer or any of his critics.

My father, a dedicated fisherman, once caught a sting on the foot which, though nasty, was hardly lifethreatening. And Steve was an inspiration to a lot of people in regards to envronmentalism.

This is the same guy who did something very dangerous with his baby! What do you all think?

As for the baby incident, they had spotters and other staff (mostly off-camera), and the croc was fed/tired beforehand. They just had a clip about it on Animal Planet tonight. I think they meant well, but the media took it differently. (Media loves controversy)

I don’t know much about him, but I do admire that he had such an unbridled passion for what he did.

In his case, with all due respect, he did indeed walk that fine line between unbridled enthusiasm and insanity :whacky:

It would have been insane if he had not known what he was in for, what he was doing. We could stand for more people who don’t think it’s crazy to be passionate.
