Father Z has some comments from Mexico on this today.
Interesting, I just read through the comments on that site you posted and found this one from it:
Prayers for Mexico. Drudge Reported that (our President), BHO was embraced by a man on his visit who died from pig flu yesterday.

So, while I didn’t vote for the man, I don’t wish him ill and I do offer this prayer for him that I also found on that site. (and for all those who may be suffering or afraid), and for Hilary Clinton too as she also just recently returned from there. (remember the Tilma story and how she wondered who painted it?)

St Raphael invoked for healing:
Glorious Archangel Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners. I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the “medicine of God,” I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of you the favor {mention your petition} and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Saint Raphael of the glorious seven who stand before the throne of Him who lives and reigns, angel of health, the Lord has filled your hand with balm from heaven to soothe or cure our pains. Heal or cure the victim of disease, and guide our steps when doubtful of our ways. Amen

For all of Mexico, and the whole world, Lord, hear our prayers. Amen

The pope just canaized 5 new saints…One belonged to an order that nursed plague victims…He would be a good guy to have on your side for help during an epidemic

I’ll look for their name and if anyone else finds it, post it here.👍
We could ask his intercession in this.

Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Well, it was one of these:

BLESSEDS ARCANGELO TADINI, BERNARDO TOLOMEI, NUNO DI SANTA MARIA ALVARES PEREIRA, GERTRUDE COMENSOLI, AND CATERINA VOLPICELLI

We could ask all of their intercession. They are all Saints now!!

There’s always St. Roch.

Paul
From that site:

In 1414, during the Council of Constance, the plague having broken out in that city, the Fathers of the Council ordered public prayers and processions in honour of the saint, and immediately the plague ceased. His relics, according to Wadding, were carried furtively to Venice in 1485, where they are still venerated.

Now, wouldn’t it be awesome if all Countries all over the world asked for public prayers, and processions in honour of the Saints instead of warning people against going to the Cathedral in Downtown Mexico and not having Mass there?

Exactly. I attended two masses today and neither one so much as mentioned the outbreak, much less offered prayers. I was very surprised, as the first was offered by a Mexican priest.

If the flu hits the Dallas area, I may receive Communion less often than I do now.
Germ warfare, satan’s playground! This is one answer to the problem that I would not condone.

By the way, there have been outbreaks of disease before; outbreaks far more serious than this and there was no mandate in place to receive the Sacred Host in the hand. What happened then me wonders?

I think the answer lies in yesterdays (27/04/09) Mass readings. Go have a look!!

Yesterday’s? April 27 th? I realize you are in Ireland, but here in America it is April 26 th so for us, yesterday’s readings would be April 25 th.

Here is a link to EWTN’s daily Mass readings for April, which one’s do you want us to read?

Did you mean this part from 1 Peter 5:5-11?? Yesterday, Saturday, April 25th?

Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: “God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble.”

So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.

Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour.

Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings.

The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus) will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.

To him be dominion forever. Amen.

Very good!👍

I think it’s just more panic peddling. SARS, West Nile Virus, Flesh eating bacteria etc were all supposed to get us. Actually the Flu kills a surprising number of people in advanced nations every year.

I attended Mass in Southern Mexico today and it wasnt mentioned.

Ill be sure to pass that on to Padre tomorrow morning. I am sure he will be interested on how those from the United States critique his Mass.
LOL tell him Mother Angelica will get him if he doesn’t shape up…:Dthat should fix him!

Throughout this thread, everyone has shown love and concern for our brothers and sisters in Mexico who are effect by this outbreak. Some of us are surprised by the lack of mention during the prayers of the people, and you react like this?

Are you familiar with the expression, don’t bite the hand that feeds you?

Paul

I see lots of “love & concern” for a Priest nobody here has met and his actions at a mass nobdy here attended. To be honest the Flu outbreak has hardly been mentioned by anyone I have been around.

Excuse me, but we’re not obligated to receieve Communion everytime we go to Mass, nor do I. My soul isn’t in danger if I make a spiritual communion instead.

Logically, receiving on the tongue could be made significantly less likely to transmit illness than receiving in the hand. Imagine all the things you’ve touched–including your neighbor’s hand during the peace–before you take the host in it.
The Bishops also did away with the sign of peace during the outbreak, FYI.

I am of course generalising, but without wishing to trivialise, it is handy that the ‘accidents’ of the blood contain alcohol, which is a very effective general disinfectant!
