I am sure that anxiousness, as a personality element (distinct from clinical anxiety) can yo an extent be inherited, as can other cerebral issues,

I agree. Whether we somehow inherit the tendency to worry, or learn it by example, or if it is somehow tied to our neurons and brain chemistry, some of us are just worriers, and all the good advice in the world does not change that.

And I actually appreciate the good intentions of those who say, “Don’t worry,” and offer words from Scripture and the saints to show the futility of constant worrying. I suppose my pride is hurt when I take this advice as meaning I have a lack of willpower or am somehow not open enough to God’s healing grace. It could also be possible that living life with a worried nature is a cross I’ve been given to bear, I don’t know.

Inasmuch as it is a conditioned response, or a force of habit, or even if it is the way our brain is “wired”, I believe we can and probably should take steps to change it, or at least to lessen its severity or frequency. But if all of our efforts and prayer do not produce the desired results, I also believe we should not add guilt or feelings of inadequacy to our inability to stop worrying.
