Is breaking a dumb law a sin?

Golf carts are slow-moving vehicles. They should not be allowed on any street or highway.
And they should not be operated by anyone who does not have a driver’s license.

That being the case, they should be operated by those who own a driver’s license.

we are to obey laws even if we found it dumb but have to use civil disobedience (lawfull one, or in illegality if no choice) in regard to immoral laws or if it goes against our conscience.

What does this have to do with driving a golf cart on a city street?

So as long as everyone is doing it, even if it is against the law, it is alright?
Why have laws? Just make thing up as you go.

We are commanded to obey just laws.

One would have a hard time making a point that not driving golf carts and ATVs on the roads is “unjust”. The laws are there because of the danger. Obey the laws.

Was talking to my handyguy about a particular house. The guy keeps the yard mowed, but the house is vacant and has been steadily falling into disrepair. There had been some effort to repair the roof with sheets of metal, but a wind storm had torn them off of his house and blown them into my yard. I was dragging them back into the guy’s yard for him to find.

It seems that the guy and his wife allowed their 7yo to ride his bike on the road near the lake. A nice, remote, country road. And while he was riding his bike in the road, someone didn’t see him, and hit him, and he died, and the family fell apart, and they abandoned the house they had been living in, but they couldn’t bring themselves to sell it, and that was the house.

Riding a bike on a country road is legal. But he wasn’t very visible, and he died.

I listen to the local police scanner. Occasionally, they’ll call in EMS or LifeFlight for four-wheelers that have flipped. They’re riding on their own property— but they still lose control. I look outside my window, and I occasionally see people driving go karts down the street… but they blast right through the stop signs, and don’t follow the usual rules of the road.

Some towns allow slow-moving vehicles (ie, golf carts) to travel on their city streets. Mine does, but they have to display the slow-moving vehicle sign. And that’s okay.

Not everything that’s legal is safe. Not everything that’s safe is legal. But it’s a bad thing to start getting into the mindset of “this rule doesn’t apply to me because it gets in the way of doing what I want to do.” (I’m looking at you, drunk drivers…) 😉

Specific laws and why they have no other purpose than to classify certain people as criminals.

You may very well, and with justification, believe that some laws should not have been enacted, but that does not mean that they have no other purpose than “to make criminals out of otherwise good and just people”.

A gratuitous assertion may be just as gratuitously denied. If you are not prepared to back up your claims then don’t make them.

I can make any claim I want. Whether you agree with it or not is of no concern to me.

Exactly. The basic rules of debate require the claimant to cite their sources.

For one, I do not want my neighbors cooking meth and putting us in danger. I do not want meth available on the streets. Drug laws protect people.

I do not want my 9 year old to be able to ride his bike down to WalMart then purchase a handgun. Gun laws protect people.

I drive on roads, thank God for the fire department, enjoy city/state and federal parks, my husband’s life saving medical devices would not be possible without Medicare. I am glad to pay taxes. Heck, Jesus paid His taxes.

Oh please. Enough of the too much government rhetoric. ☹️
Golf carts and scooters are a menace to those who are trying to drive streets in an automobile. Just because you can drive them on a street does not mean that you should drive them on a street.
Maybe some day they will create a special late for those who want to use golf carts, but for now, it is safer to keep these slow-moving vehicles off the street.

It’s not rhetoric. And I won’t stop telling it how it is.

How many places have you lived where they license and allow golf carts on the streets, just as any other vehicle?
Just because you can drive them on a street does not mean that you should drive them on a street.
No, it means you should be able to. And I have and I do.

I never said anything about whether I agreed or not, nor did I challenge your right to make any claim at all. But if you want to maintain credibility then you need to be prepared to back up your claims. If you don’t care about credibility then you are just talking, not debating or discussing. I am done here.
