For the poster who sees Marxism/Communism as the solution:

“State retribution for tiny thefts, such as stealing a potato, even by a child, would include being tied up and thrown into a pond…”
“… parents were forced to bury their children alive or were doused in excrement and urine, others were set alight, or had a nose or ear cut off. One record shows how a man was branded with hot metal. People were forced to work naked in the middle of winter; 80 per cent of all the villagers in one region of a quarter of a million Chinese were banned from the official canteen because they were too old or ill to be effective workers, so were deliberately starved to death.”

This is the real history of Communism in this world… the above is the Chinese version and their Great Leap Forward. Want to learn about Pol Pot? How about Stalin? East Germany?

Ever been to a communist country? I have. In a word … UGLY.

Education has failed utterly.
Speaking about an ideological system in terms of poor historical applications is dumb for a number of reasons. Firstly, because the communist societies you are talking about were following a certain brand of communism, subject to its own flaws, warps, whatever. Saying communism is bad because when it has been implemented in the past it hasn’t went well is a little close minded and isn’t, to my mind, a valid response to people speaking about whether or not the ideology of communism is worthwhile or not. Secondly, we are this very minute living in a corrupt CAPITALIST society, rife with racism, sexism and hate of all kinds.

Also, I’m guessing you’ve never been to CUBA. Really bad post.

Sole problem is, comrades, that i’m not a marxist, but a trotskist, and i see the problem of the church in marx readings as a minor issue. Your problem comrades, is that you think communism=communism! You could also say religion=religion, but you know it ain’t true, lets take 2 opposites: satanism/catholicism and stalinism/trotskism.
You don’t have to turn mad about my religious belonging text in my profile, i know what i’ve written there, and while i feel myself still more like a catholic, than a believer in god, i’ve written catholic & communist.(in first place i wanted to write catholic trotskist, but figuring out that you dont know him, the usa want to keep him low, so they are only mentioning stalin, i’ve written communist)

Now the communism you all talk about is in fact Stalinism, while I’m a Trotskist, and if you would know him, you would know that he was among the first to crtiticise Stalin for his deeds.

Here a short explenation of trotskism:
In the first place it’s called Trotskyism, not “trotskism”. You obviously don’t know him or his theories very well at all.
Secvondly it is utterly absurd to say that Trotskyism is is the polar opposite of Marxism in the way that Satanism is the polar opposite of Catholicism. Trotskyism and Stalinism are merely two closely related types of Marxism, just as Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy are two closely related types of Christianity. Both Trotsky and Stalin claimed to be the true succussors of Marcx and to be carrying out Marx’s true legacy and ideas. Your ludicrous delusion that Trotskyism is “anti-Marxist” is as absurd as saying that the Eastern Orthodox are “anti-Christian” or Satanist.

You will point out no doubt that Trotskyites and Stalinists have oppressed and fought against each other. They were doing so only in order to fight over the spoils and because they are so closely related rivals.

Trotskyism like any form of Marxism is totally contradictory to any form of belief in a Supreme Being.

Well, yes, it can be, depending on the reason you are doing it. If you are burning the Communist Manifesto in an attempt to incite violence or prejudice against a group of people who are somehow associated with that publication and yet, as a whole, are innocent of any wrong doing, then your incitement to violence can be a sin if your actions lead to persecution of those people. The question hinges not upon the actual burning of the document, but upon your motives for doing so. The same holds true for burning the Constitution, the Bible, or the Koran.

Your problem comrades, is that you think communism=communism!
Now the communism you all talk about is in fact Stalinism,
Your problem is that you can’t see that communism = communism. We not only codemn the crimes of Stalin, but the similar crimnes under Lenin, the Paris Commune, Mao, Kim Il-sung, Pol Pot, and every other Communist regime that has ever existed inspired by the truly evil and indeed, Satanist, writings of the ardent atheist Marx.
while I’m a Trotskist, and if you would know him, you would know that he was among the first to crtiticise Stalin for his deeds.
If you look at the facts you’ll find that the Cathollic Church and just about everybody else not only criticised but vehemently condemned Stalin’s deeds long before Trotsky first raised any quibble. Trotsky would have remained a loyal cooperator in and indeed initiator of the crimes of Marxism in Russia and its dominions, as he had been from the start, except that stalin kicked him out of Russia because he was a rival for the leadership.
I rahter think the church helps to ease pain, but it wont remedee against the source of it.
A perfect praphrase of Marx’s famously evil statement, “Religion is the opiate of the masses.” And yet you claim you’re not Marxist. Your attempt at defence of your contradictory description of yourself is ludicrously puerile.

So would you using the same logic say,
“Saying Nazism is bad because when it has been implemented in the past it hasn’t went well is a little close minded and isn’t, to my mind, a valid response to people speaking about whether or not the ideology of Nazism is worthwhile or not.”?

“hasn’t went well” has to be the understatement of the century. In the last century the crimes committed by Communist regimes have dwarfed the crimes committed by any other type of regime thoughout the history of the world. And yes I include the regimes of the Mongol Khans and the Moslems in that statement.
Secondly, we are this very minute living in a corrupt CAPITALIST society, rife with racism, sexism and hate of all kinds.
And can you point to any Communist society anywhere anytime that is or has been less rife with racism, sexism and hate of all kinds? All societies and systems of government have flaws. But what sense does it make to say *“our current society is flawed, so let’s completely destroy it and replace it with a type of regime whaich has proven to be the most hate-filled, murderous and corrupt system ever seen, everywhere it has ever been implemented in the past. Because I’m sure for some unkown reason THIS time it will be different and everything will be just lovely” *?
You are hopelessly naive and deluded.

Also, I’m guessing you’ve never been to CUBA. Really bad post.
So that would be why millions of immigrants have been flocking to Cuba over the past 50 years to enjoy the benefits of its wonderful Communist regime? rather than fleeing headlong away from their homeland despite the best and most lethal efforts of the Cuban government to force them to stay?

… Saying communism is bad because when it has been implemented in the past it hasn’t went well is a little close minded and isn’t, to my mind, a valid response to people speaking about whether or not the ideology of communism is worthwhile or not…
Right. We should give communists more chances to show how it really works. That’s what they used to say in Poland: “We haven’t gotten to the real communism yet!”

How long do you expect people to wait?
Secondly, we are this very minute living in a corrupt CAPITALIST society, rife with racism, sexism and hate of all kinds.
But the soviets and Chinese had none of these problems - ever? These are human problems. Catholics call it “sin”.
Also, I’m guessing you’ve never been to CUBA. Really bad post.
Been to E. Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Belorus, Ukraine, Russia - back in the day. I can still smell the stench of boiled cabbage and stale urine that choked the halls of the university cafeteria.

This is my point. The reason that Nazism is wrong ISN’T because it didn’t work out in the past. It is because of junk principles. What has been said in this thread is ‘communism sucks - look at these examples’ and no attempt has been made to tackle WHY it is bad, other than that it is hostile to organised religion.

I and others have pointed out that Communism is not just “hostile” to “organised” (whatever that means) religion, but that communism is FUNDAMENTALLY based on atheism and calls for the violent suppression and extinction of all religions and religous believers especially Christians; and that this is not just some aberration from “true” communism but is the essential basis found in The Communist Manifesto and the other works of its founders Marx, Lenin and Engels.

The very basis of marxism is antipathy to religion. Not as many suppose antipathy to capitalism. e.g. in communist china today the Marxist regime happily allows capitalism on a huge scale, but religion especially Catholicism is brutally suppressed, as it is and always has been in ALL Communist regimes. The fact that Communists have been reponsible for the murders of more than 100 million innocent people merely because of their religious beliefs, is merely a symptom of the evil at the very heart of communism.

If, as a Catholic, that isn’t enough to convince you “why communism is bad”, I don’t know what is.

Placing the communist manifesto at the bottom of a bird cage sounds fitting.

Burning the communist manifesto by tossing it into a campfire might help keep you warm for a few moments on a cold night, or serve as fuel for roasting marshmallows.

Please refer to the flying marshmallow diagram below:

Communism is worldy, Religion is heavenly. Communism focuses on a paradise on Earth, Religion states that no paradise can be on Earth, only in Heaven. Communism is Communism.

Your statement that Communism has different branches within like the category of Religion is somewhat in err. Why? Because ideologically, Communism is one belief, so in sense you can state that said Communism is a religion.

Satanism/Catholicism/Communism. It doesn’t matter who the leader was, if they adhered to the philosophical principles, yet did it in a different method, it’s still Communism. Stalin’s attempt was cold blooded and murderous, so was Kruschevs, yet Kruschev did not seek to turn Soviet Russia into an imperial expansion like Stalin’s intentions and actions (Post Naz-Soviet non-aggression pact, which conquered Lithuania and the baltic states, and pushed in a war with Finland.)

Kruschevs intentions were realtivist Communism ‘There are many paths to Communismn’ poppycock. Trotsky wasn’t the only to criticise Stalin’s policies, his victims did too. And in fact, if Trotsky ever came to power, it would have been most likely to have even been more bloody than Stalin’s reign. Just look at his conduct under Lenin, in which I don’t believe Trotsky never had any say when Lenin starved out about two million under his War Communism plan which was enacted during the Civil War of 1921.

@quasimodo: you rather dont know about history and human nature 😉 you’re the typical communism= death, oppression, chaos , while nobody of us wants that.
Church is for salvation, not for easing the pain, there is no heavenly life here, only beyond the Earth.

Your statement to quasimodo is rather obnoxious, not an intention to insult but you show the errors that you accuse quasimodo of having. Do not be decieved by the idea that we can achieve perfection on Earth, or that we can fix all the problems on Earth, we can’t. Why can’t we do that? Sin, and I say to you that you don’t know the History and nature of Humanity, sinful, traitorous, deceptive, murderous, greedful, wrathful.

Communism does equal death, oppression and chaos, why? Because with equality there is a loss of liberty, which in turn is an act of oppression, and yet even under this sytem there is never true equality. As George Orwell gladly put it ‘All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.’ (Animal Farm). Why does it equal death, apart from the 120 million that can be claimed from the killing count of Communism? Because it forsters either an elite that won’t allow anything to get in one’s way, or it’s ideological crusade that if no one agrees, they are an enemy of the state. Stalin’s actions were communistic, Pol Pot’s were communistic, Kim Jong - Il’s are communistic, Mao ZeDong’s were communistic.
Catalina:
now for the one arguing that communism is against the “human nature”, I say, what is human nature?
Here a extract of a anarchist answer to the human nature:
Anarchists don’t understand human nature pretty much, because they fail to understand the Evil that man can commit, and since Anarchists don’t advocate law, who are they going to turn to when someone is murdered? And how can they enact capital punishment (if that is there choice of punishment) to the murderer if there is no law that condemns such?

That article you quoted is rather erroneous also, not only for it’s ad hominem on stating that anyone who disagrees is a fool ’ Every fool, from king to policemen, from the flatheaded parson to the visionless dabbler in science, presumes to speak authoritatively of human nature.’ Human nature is authorative, and if he’s going to quote Sparta as running in Anarchy, he’s forgetting that Sparta had Kings. And if you or he can be so kind as to name one civilization without a leader, I’d be thankful.

It won’t, because it’s not ‘his’ Communism, he tried to argue that by saying Stalin wasn’t a true Communist. He’s also stuck in the worldy view, where he doesn’t want to see the poor starve, the homeless die on the streets. He’s most likely mixing Communism with Humanitarianism. Jesus Christ has said that the poor will always be with us (Matthew 26:11).

Placing the communist manifesto at the bottom of a bird cage sounds fitting.
It’s not even worthy of that.
God Bless,

Also when Stalin kicked Trotsky out of Russia, he went and lived in Mexico where the Trotskyist regime there was ruthlessly hunting down and murdering priests, closing, despoiling and destroying churches and convents, and persecuting Christians in countless other ways with Trotsky’s warm approval, as it was he who inspired such evils. Fortunately Stalin sent some goons to kill Trotsky - one of the few good things Stalin ever did. Good riddance to an evil anti-Christian atheist tyrant.

Imagine if Trotsky had control of Russia, the hunting and murdering of the religious as well as having a significantly huge power to wage war on other nations, since Trotsky advocated ‘Permanent Revolution’ (essentially non-stop war with other Countries until they become in turn Communist themselves.) No purges of the military like Stalin did, it would have been a nightmare.

God Bless,

Christopher.

Funniest post ever! Man, you’ve got a profound sense of the ironic. People (poor people … of course if they are not a big wheel in the Party, they’re all poor) have been pouring out of Castro’s utopia for decades. And the best part, you posted this within hours of Castro declaring that it doesn’t work. Thanks for the belly laugh. It really brightened my day.

One more reason to despair over the state of our educational system.

“From each according to his ability and to each according to his need.” Justice rebels at such mindless drivel.

To anybody who reads this and knows what has occurred in this thread … I KNOW I am beating a dead horse, but this is too good to ignore:

“There may yet be admirers of Cuban communism in certain precincts of Berkeley or Cambridge, but it’s hard to find them in Havana.”

The 84-year-old Fidel (who later said he didn’t mean to say that) has turned control over to brother Raul, whose faith in the shining power of Marxism-Leninism has also dried up.
