Is Canon in D appropriate for a wedding processional?

Though Canon in D might be permissible, my personal opinion would be not to use it.

Other posters are correct that it’s overplayed and that’s really unfortunate as it isn’t a great example of music from that time period.

You might consider Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Purcell’s “Trumpet Voluntary,” or any number of other pieces from the Baroque period, if you like this time period.

In the end, though, the cantor is someone you likely have hired to sing at your wedding liturgy. Decisions like these are best made by the 2 who are getting married. Though lots of people here can give you THEIR opinions, not yours.

Actually, it falls under the category of secular music and it would not be permitted. Jesu, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring is what a lot of brides will pick as the entrance processional.

I have attended at least a half a dozen Catholic weddings in our conservative diocese and it has been played. Speak for your own diocese.

I have always LOVED this since the first I viewed it. Sad, but so incredibly true and hilarious if you are a musician who deals with brides (or mothers of brides, who can be worse than the bride) like this one.
