Is dyeing your hair a sin?

“It was your own question” gets back to the comment made earlier; that you have identified as having issues with scrupulosity.

The internet is not the place to go searching for answers. You need to speak with your pastor, as it is clear that you are troubled by issues which others are not. Scrupulosity can be a terrible burden to carry; and if this is your issue, then you need to bet professional help - and your pastor or another priest is far better equipped to help you than anyone anonymously on the internet.

This is a public forum, which is not a place to seek help; and while we do have some people who may have some expertise in helping with this issue, the forum is not the place to seek that help.

You can definitely imitate her virtues but you should not try to be her clone.

She shouldn’t be an example I should follow? Why? The fact that I’m married doesn’t seem a well enough reason or is it? Even men follow her example
I understand what you are saying @MarthaSo.

From “Gaudete et Exultate”
  1. “Each in his or her own way” the Council says. We should not grow discouraged before examples of holiness that appear unattainable. There are some testimonies that may prove helpful and inspiring, but that we are not meant to copy, for that could even lead us astray from the one specific path that the Lord has in mind for us. The important thing is that each believer discern his or her own path, that they bring out the very best of themselves, the most personal gifts that God has placed in their hearts (cf. 1 Cor 12:7), rather than hopelessly trying to imitate something not meant for them. We are all called to be witnesses, but there are many actual ways of bearing witness.[11] Indeed, when the great mystic, Saint John of the Cross, wrote his Spiritual Canticle , he preferred to avoid hard and fast rules for all. He explained that his verses were composed so that everyone could benefit from them “in his or her own way”.[12] For God’s life is communicated “to some in one way and to others in another”.[13]
  1. This should excite and encourage us to give our all and to embrace that unique plan that God willed for each of us from eternity: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” ( Jer 1:5).

No. Maybe unless the only reason you’re doing it is deliberately to annoy someone.

An action isn’t defined wholly by intention. There can be bad intentions behind good or neutral actions. There can be good intentions behind immoral actions.

I’m actually glad that those types that want to destroy society dye their hair extravagantly. In nature, bright colors is associated with animals that are toxic. I see brightly colored hair on a person and know to walk the other way.

Wouldn’t dyeing hair if it stemmed from vanity or pride be a venial sin?

It’s only a sin (for men as well as women) if it is a really bad dye job. Otherwise, why would it be sinful?

I suppose one might see it as sinful because of a fear of looking vain, perhaps?

I suppose one can go too far; but this might apply to virtually everything.

When dealing with the scrupulous, almost anything can be a sin to them. So these types of questions shouldn’t exactly come as a shock to other readers.

Oh come on, let young people rebel a little by wearing their kind of clothes (torn jeans, for example) and dyeing their hair any way they like. You’re only young once, and this is a developmental phase that will shortly end for most when they enter the workforce. In my era, it was long hair and bell-bottoms.

Oh no, ANOTHER Trump thread?! LOL
Maybe it’s just a “squirrel as toupee thread” 😜😱

That’s not how the moderation and flagging system works.

Roughly, if enough full members flag a post, it is temporarily muted/hidden, but can be clicked upon, although I believe for brand new members who have not reached “basic” (two still rust level 0), a full member (trust level 2) flagging as spam will actually hide completely it pending moderator action.

Actual removal is only done by moderators, which appears to be the case if you’ve posted in this thread above this point.

That is, your criticism here is actually directed to the action of moderators, not of whomever flagged the post(s).

Remember, you’re not a consecrated religious as she was… so you’re not going to give up marriage, embrace apostolic poverty, or live under the absolute obedience as a superior. That means that many of your life choices will be different… but by all means imitate her within the context of your own state of life!
