Is every Catholic obligated to confess once a year even if they donot have Mortal sin

My goal is to go every 2 months for the rest of the year. So I can keep getting the grace that I can receive from that confession to keep me closer to God. And I figure the more Grace I receive and the closer to God I become the harder it will be for the devil to get to me, to tempt me to sin!

I do not understand the time, trouble and research some Catholics go through to PROVE that there is no need to go to Confession unless they have committed a Mortal sin. I find that incredible and really I am amazed.

As a child (1930’s), I learned to go to Confession as often as possible to grow in grace. That has not changed. Many priests (mine included) preach the necessity of frequent confession. EWTN priests often preach the necessity of frequent confession. I understand that the Holy Father (whom I am pretty sure has a soul free of grave sin) goes weekly.

What are the advocates of no confession afraid of? What a wonderful feeling of relief to leave the confessional having heard the words that your sins are forgiven you. You don’t get that by sprinkling Holy Water around. Besides, St. Thomas advocated the devotional use of Holy Water; which, to me, means making the Sign of the Cross, not sprinkling around the room.

You have made this the best Good Friday for me ever. I have just been in church for 3 hours you know How we do, and I am always sad when I have to remember word for word what we did to Jesus and how he suffered for us and our sins. But knowing you are going to pray for me. JUST MADE MY DAY! Thank-you and God Bless you.

By the way I was born in 1961 and I lost my Dad last March, But trust me every day until the day he died he REMINDED me. CONFESSION! He called to REMIND me its a Holy Day don’t forget! What are the advocates of no confession afraid of?

It’s been a few months since I’ve read this thread, but I don’t remember anyone advocating people not to go to confession here. But you are right that you can find folks in your typical parish that never go. I’ve never really understood that practice. Maybe it is associated with a false idea that God didn’t intend priests to be able to forgive anyone? Or maybe they don’t have a grasp of how sacraments confer grace? Christ gave them to us, so let’s take advantage of them.
