rinnie, you are so right. Frequent confession will help you grow in grace and I am going to pray that you persevere in your goal.
I do not understand the time, trouble and research some Catholics go through to PROVE that there is no need to go to Confession unless they have committed a Mortal sin. I find that incredible and really I am amazed.
As a child (1930’s), I learned to go to Confession as often as possible to grow in grace. That has not changed. Many priests (mine included) preach the necessity of frequent confession. EWTN priests often preach the necessity of frequent confession. I understand that the Holy Father (whom I am pretty sure has a soul free of grave sin) goes weekly.
What are the advocates of no confession afraid of? What a wonderful feeling of relief to leave the confessional having heard the words that your sins are forgiven you. You don’t get that by sprinkling Holy Water around. Besides, St. Thomas advocated the devotional use of Holy Water; which, to me, means making the Sign of the Cross, not sprinkling around the room.
