Is everything a sin?!

I would like to add to this, though, that this does not mean that all that one has to do is go to Mass and thenone can continue willingly committing venial sins. Venial sins are still sins, and we need to work to change them as best as we can.

Again, we all must work on this. None of us here is perfect, but we all must strive for true holiness.

Maybe you like the beat, me too, but at it’s core it is intricately evil. How many people fall victim to it’s influence?
Sure, the song may not influence YOU, but what about the millions of others, like me before my conversion?
I personally do not like metal music at all (and never have), but I will note that it could potentially be used for good if metal songs were written and put together that had good and moral messages.

The problem is that, if one’s children end up liking metal (as well), there would be a fair likelihood that they would tlook into metal’s history, and then may come to choose to purposely listen to the bad stuff.

If there are many people who, foolishly, do all of this research on dead forms of paganism (which are intrinsically incorrect), or revive dead spiritual practices that were debunked ages ago, because they want spirituality but happen to have an irrational loathing of Christianity, and thus want to “stick it to Christianity”, I have no doubt that any attempt to make Christian metal music will lead some people in some future generation to take on the original, bad metal music, because it’s edgier.

That doesn’t mean that cleansing the metal genre ought not to be done. I’m just saying that some people will “undo” any Christianisation out of spite or foolishness at some point down the line. It’s going to happen, mark my words.

Could you point out where it says this in current CCC or New American Bible

What do you mean? “says this”?

You aren’t trying to suggest that we don’t need to try and rid ourselves of as much venial sin as possible, are you?

If you are, just stop and think about that for a minute.

It’s true that our venial sins can be easily forgiven (and are during the Mass as well). That does not mean that venial sins are good.

Sounds like you can’t…

Many popular songs can be read as being about Jesus or God or some spiritual thing. It just goes to show how much people hunger for the spiritual, that they write such stuff.

I always thought that apart from the prohibitions on divorce, unmarried sex, and non-procreative sex, the Catholic Church was one of the more liberal religions out there in terms of “worldly” stuff you could enjoy. Many Protestant groups have, or have had, prohibitions on listening to music, dancing, card playing, drinking, and other things, that Catholics simply did not and do not have.

Idk. I know what the baltimore catechism wrote in this record is incorrect or flawed but jeez dude sometimes it really makes me think why im even catholic
I’m guessing that you are a young adult, so I would recommend YOUCAT, which is short for Youth Catechism. It is an official Catholic Catechism with some additional perspective and guidance for young Catholics.

You seem to insist that the Baltimore Catechism is incorrect or flawed because it contradicts your understanding and your expectations. In my opinion, the Baltimore Catechism holds much truth and wisdom. Maybe you should try a little harder to find it.

For example, what’s wrong with dirty jokes? I’m guessing that you think no harm is done. Can you see how there is some harm in it?

To me the replies on this forum still proves my point…i don’t see how some people on this forum can live life without being afraid of everything

Like…not everything is a sin…when you say we are called to be apart from the world…that doesn’t mean to think everything is a sin and just read your bible all day…that is what gnostics would do. But not Catholics…we are called to baptize things we love into catholicism imo…throughout church history that is what we done at least.

And to me I believe you can make anything a sin if you see it a certain way. The point is to do your best imo and not be too harsh or too lax.

and no i don’t think everyone is going to hell regardless of what everyone says. So i am not afraid.

We are called to be perfect but not be scrupulous and afraid

Heavy music CAN BE a sin, I’m certainly not saying all is, just know from experience most of what I listened to was, such as AC/DC.

Given the danger of sin to your soul it’s probably a good idea to heed the Baltimore Catechism’s warning against sin. Btw…the Baltimore Catechism is still a valid teaching tool as shown here…

Question:
Is the Baltimore Catechism still a valid resource to teach the Faith?
Answer:
Yes, the Baltimore Catechism is still valid. Obviously it is missing anything from the Second Vatican Council but it still contains all the essentials of the faith. It can be used to learn the basics of the faith and can be supplemented with some more up to dates materials. Some of the wordings may no longer be in use and the Church may have elaborated further on some points over the past century but there is no error contained in it.

In fact, when I’ve taught in my parishes’ schools I’ve always used it as my base text.
It seems many in the modern Church have given themselves a promotion. No longer tax collectors they are now tax accountants looking for ways to say sin is not sin. Loophole Catholics.

Jesus equates anger to murder.

21 You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill. And whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.

22 But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment.

I can listen to anything and not be affected by it…if i see something though, i usually go in my mind and root it out

its usually when i over-analyze things like the people on this thread that the thing I am listening to hurts me

I get you guys fear for my soul but a little too much fear is bad as well. If God sent everyone to hell for being a bit tainted he wouldn’t be much of a god

and i do think the baltimore cat is a good resource just not for everything…whenever i hear someone try to imply most things are a sin i take it with a grain of salt

aren’t many here angry to the point of sinning as well but are alright because its seen as “righteous anger”

Jesus ends the beatitudes in Matthew 5:48 by saying, “so be perfect, just as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”

Obviously none of us are perfect, but with Jesus’ help we can come closer to perfection. Venial sins encompass all of the imperfections that stand on the way of a perfect relationship with God.

It’s not about being afraid, but rather about having a desire to grow closer to Jesus. Venial sins are a barrier to that relationship.

I’m pretty sure there are others just like him who aren’t affected by their own shadow

It takes time and wisdom but eventually once you reach a certain state it’s possible to do what he is implying

Certain acts are always intristically wrong because they hurt others

A dirty joke with a certain level of moderation doesn’t hurt anyone unless you deliberately annoy someone

Thus it’s not an intristic evil

In all honesty I agree with him

Theologians sometimes over think things and a certain balance needs to be pushed into the picture

We are called to be perfect yes but not to be a gnostic that sees all things as unclean

The sin of scandal doesn’t apply to smaller matters

All things can be seen as scandal if you truly dig hard enough

The perception of something being holy vs unholy is usually based off what the person thinks is unholy vs holy not what is actually the case
