Arguing With the Gay Mob on Twitter

While the above writer may mot be making many converts with his approach, he does raise doubts about whether gayness has any reality beyond the assertions of individuals to have a “gay” identity. After all, if something doesn’t have a name, what existence does it have? How can we talk about it?

Every heresy in the history of the Church needed a name (often connected with the propagator of the heresy) before it could be denounced.

Are we playing into the hands of heretics by adopting their identity-based language?

Your response assumes the very thing I am putting up for discussion.

So is anyone who has ever experienced the smallest same sex attraction required to adopt this label or identity? Why?

And what makes a person “capable of sodomy?” Aren’t we all tainted with original sin and concupisence?

I’m not even sure what you’re trying to put up for discussion. You’re saying homosexuality doesn’t exist because it doesn’t have a name, even though it does because you just called it by name, and that it’s somehow a heresy despite not existing?

More is required. Don’t you think? Can you perform sodomy? Is it more than the fact that it is sin stopping you? More is stoping me. The thought is repulsive to me in itself.

If I claim that I am a “homocidarian” because I once thought of harming or killing someone, must I now belong to the group of “homicidarians” who are capable of harming and killing? Is that part of my identity?

I think you are trying to say something like it is one thing to have a thing or do a thing but another thing for that thing to have a group of people who get together over long periods of time and form a sort of mini-culture? And that one learns that culture or conforms to it, so it tells something about you to outsiders?

Your argument makes sense, but, in our oversexualized culture, it’s somewhat invalid.

All worth considering, thank you.

But consider someone… say a compulsive liar. The thought of lying may once have been repulsive to him. Whereas having become hardened in his sin, he is no longer disgusted. Has that become his identity? Might SSA be comsidered likewise? If that is the case, then to be “gay” is nothing more than to have become hardened in sodomy (or thoughts of sodomy)…

What do you think?

Dude. You guys are off topic. The question is - when did homosexuality become an identity instead of a series of discrete actions? I say it has been used as an identity for a long time. It now has become an identity that people take pride in owning. St. Paul identifies lots of people by heir sins, because their sins have taken over.

1 Cor. 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Not many people would define themselves according to their sins, but in this society, “gayness” is one sin people are encouraged to wear as a badge. I have more to say on it, but I am sure I will be flagged, warned, and sent to the forum time out box for what I have already said.

There does seem to be something called “gay culture,” though I am unsure of what it seeks to perpetuate.

I have often thought about Catholic culture, which can be either impoverished (marginal Catholics) or rich (pilgrimages, Eucharistic processions, etc.).

What do you think about this? Is there a “gay” culture apart from “homosexual” acts?

Belonging? Ease of communication on otherwise difficult topics? Sameness? A shared belief that you don’t need to be fixed? A shared lingo? A zone where you will be understood and responded to by your definitions and assumptions?

I’d assume something of this sort is the case, that it includes at least one of the above, and probably varies geographically. It also could be the case maybe for deafness? Or maybe a group of similar genetic background people?

Oh, yes, I understand about the Catholic culture thing. The main draw of bible study at the parish is that there are Catholics there. I get to actually say something somewhat Catholic to another living person besides my spouse. I can do the bible thing on my own. But the bible part supplies the structure, so that it isn’t free-form like coffee and donuts (total nightmare).

I wonder, was the Catholic culture thing was easier when there was the Polish parish and everyone in a 3 block radius went there. Or maybe your entire village in Mexico was Catholic with fiestas that fit that idea. Now finding Catholic is a scheduled task, like the dentist. NO! I meant something nicer…😜

This gets to the heart of the matter, doesn’t it? Identifying oneself with one’s sins? Why would anyone do that?

If I claim that I am a “homocidarian” because I once thought of harming or killing someone, must I now belong to the group of “homicidarians” who are capable of harming and killing? Is that part of my identity?
False equivalence.
