Is happiness a moral obligation?

Friend, I believe we should act happy, there is no other agenda. I have created this thread to try to encourage people to act happy. 🙂
Irish, you’ve probably never read any of my threads, but I totally agree with you. I love the Prager show and listen quite often. He is right about alot of things, but none more so than the issue of happiness.

I’m convinced that in this world, happiness is tough-it takes work. It’s easy to be miserable. It’s also viewed as dorky or cheesy to be happy sometimes. I don’t care, I try my best to spread sunshine.

Truly, if you disagree, then just state that and please move on and avoid further discussion on this thread (and I beg you to not again reply in sarcasm trying to throw these points back at me as in a mirror–I know that tactic too and I ask you to just let it go if you disagree).

I say this with complete respect for you as a person and as a fellow person in Christ, our Lord. I mean no harm, no injury and no insult. I just think people should act happy and that acting happy has many profound consequences. 🙂
I was not trying to be disrespectful of you. I was trying to show the paradox of your argument. You are putting the burden of your happiness on other people. If you say that you have a moral obligation to be happy, then you cannot do that.

I still agree with you that it is immoral to project feelings of unhappiness on other people just to attract their attention. That is simply manipulative.

I would also agree with you if you were to say that people should make the effort being happy by looking at what is good instead of simply dwelling on the lack of good.

I agree (obviously right). 🙂 Thank you.

I think it is so important to act happy, especially as Christians, because we are also trying to show non-believers that we have great joy in the Lord.

YES! As Prager says, there is NOTHING worse than an unhappy religious person. They show bad on our faith.

Dirty little secret-people who are mopey and sad all the time are selfish and don’t care about others. Subconsciously or not.

Come on people, where Christians! We rock! Share the happiness and love of Christ!

I think you misunderstand. I do not place my happiness in how other people act. I try to act happy no matter how others are. The demeanor of others rarely has an impact on me. I am merely saying that people, and especially all Christians, should raditate the joy and happiness they feel being in the Lord. We have the incredible hope of salvation and really the promise of salvation if we can endure in our race until the end. Now, that is something to help us be happy about all the time.

People should look at us (Christians) and say, “Wow, I want what they have!”

Well said…I agree.

We need to be people that radiate happiness and joy so that others want a share of that joy.

When it comes to happiness–Prager is exactly right imo. 🙂

This way of stating your point makes perfect sense to me, and I completely agree with you. “So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:16
