I know this has been a topic of debate for some time, but anyone who says that the books are Christian might be looking to hard
“Rowling has stated that she struggles with her own beliefs. In an interview with the Today Show in July 2007, she said, “…until we reached Book Seven, views of what happens after death and so on…would give away a lot of what was coming. So … yes, my belief and my struggling with religious belief and so on I think is quite apparent in this book.”[101]”
The danger in all this comes in not realizing what kind of affects media (music, movies, tv, books etc) has on us. To deny this is to deny human nature. This is the problem. Everyone thinks, ‘oh it is just a movie’, or ‘it is just a book’, but no, it is not just that. It has influence, and it doesn’t point in the right direction.
It all started with Harry Potter (probably even before that), and then we got to Dan Brown’s “FICTIONAL” novels, and then we got the Golden Compass made into a movie, and I’m sure there will be something after that. The line keeps on getting pushed because no one stands their ground. They say, oh, but I like these books, so lets make excuses for it so that we can justify supporting them. One day, we will stand and look back and wonder how on earth we got to this point. Harry Potter was just the beginning.
If a teenager was to read these books, one that was having a lot of troubles, and was to come to the realization that yes witchcraft is possible, what is stopping them from going over to the library and getting a book on witchcraft? What is stopping them from entering into it? Where did they get the idea? Losing one soul to witchcraft is far worse than having no Harry Potter at all. I have no regrets with not taking part in the Harry Potter craze.
Having said that, there is no need to debate anymore because whats done is done.
God bless.
