I’ve been struggling with them and I want to know.
I don’t believe so, but take it to your priest in Confession. Mortal sins have to be deliberate…I’ve been struggling with them and I want to know.
CCC said:**1859 **Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God’s law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.
Actually that’s not coveting. I once tried to confess that to a very orthodox Catholic priest and told him that I coveted over wanting a new car as my neighbor had a new one. He said that was NOT coveting. Coveting would be if I deliberately and specifically desired my neighbors car, not wanting a new one like his.Probably…because you’re violating the commandment, Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife (future, past or present)
The Curé of Árs St. John Vianney said, it’s not your fault if a bird flies over your head. It is your fault if you build a nest for it in your hair!
Same can be said for lustful thoughts. You can’t stop them flying through your mind from time to time, but you can stop your self from entertaining them.
To be mortal, these thoughts would have to be pretty serious (grave matter) and you would have to give them your consent to be there. Even if not, it could still be a serious sin if it contains grave matter.
Best thing is just to take them to confession.
Hope that helps!
How does the joke go? “No father, I didn’t entertain lustful thoughts…they entertained me.”At any rate if you don’t entertain on lustful thoughts, these thoughts in general are venial sins.
