Traditionally, theologians took “And she wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger” as a sign that Mary was up and about, busy and pain-free, immediately after giving birth. Otherwise, Joseph would have been doing it, or they just would have laid the kid next to Mary without any elaborate wrappings.
Women who don’t have much discomfort during childbirth (naturally, without drugs) are experiencing a taste of what life could have been for every woman without the Fall. Why some women receive such a special blessing and others don’t, is no doubt for God’s good reasons.
There are a lot of consequences of the Fall. Any “design errors” are our fault, not God’s. His work was perfect; our original sin scribbled all over it, and over the rest of Creation (because God made humans the head of material Creation). We mystically screwed up the entire universe with that one sin, folks. That’s the power of being made in the image and likeness of God.
(Of course there are special techniques, drugs, etc. that can reduce pain, just as we can use special techniques and medicines to soften other consequences of the Fall, like difficulty in growing crops, birth defects, etc., etc…)
Re: the poster who claimed that Adam was never deceived —
First off, of course Adam recognized the stupid fruit. There was only one of those trees in the whole garden.
Second, of course Adam sinned. If Adam hadn’t sinned knowingly and of his own free will, Christ wouldn’t have needed to be born a man. Only half the human race would have sinned, so Jesus Christ would have been born, lived, preached, been crucified, and risen again as a woman, to save womankind.
So if you’re Christian, or even Jewish, you believe that Adam sinned. If you aren’t, be aware that your interpretation doesn’t fit what all of us believe.
