Is Islam a threat to Christianity around the globe?

dzheremi, you guessed too much.

Time to get down to facts. As already proven on frequent occasions, the fact is allah is the name of the idol worshipped by the quaryish tribesmen

.
Please provide evidence that there was an idol (a physical image) identified with Allah.

And if we are Christians, Our Lord called us to name our God, Heavenly Father.

Your lack of interest in truth is not to your credit.

There are more important things than whether you are “threatened.” As any traditional moralist would point out, our lives are threatened every day by all sorts of things, and as the late Fr. Neuhaus liked to say, the mortality rate is holding steady at 100%.

We are all going to die. While we are still alive, there are better things to think about than whether something is a “threat” to us.

Edwin
Then you need to rename the thread cause that is th topic and we usually try to stay on it.

Seek truth…it is more important than anything else and might not come through people you like or love…or who helped you. But…seek truth anyway…it will set you free.
If any one thing can be said of Dzheremi it is that he is an impartial seeker of the truth (and I say this despite the fact that I have major disagreements with him about Very Important Things).

This is what Hitler said after he lost the battle of Stalingrad: “What does the individual matter? He’s going to die anyway. Only the State survives.”

Thinking about “better things” instead of the impending threat was the isolationist attitude that got us into WW-II and caused 50 million early deaths.

The State is a lot more ephemeral than the individual.

What “better things” were “we” thinking about? And how exactly did an isolationist attitude get anyone (presumably you are talking about the U.S.) *into *WWII?

This really isn’t the point, of course. But you brought it up.

My point is that we should think about goodness and truth. We should be asking ourselves what goodness and truth there is in Islam, and we should criticize those things in it (and far more those things in our own religion) which are false and evil.

The fact that certain Catholic theologians of the past (St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Thomas More, etc.) thought that heretics should be persecuted is much less important to me (heretic though I am by their standards) and the beauty and truth found in their writings.

Admittedly that’s easy to say now. All the more reason that I should say it, when I can, about religious views that really may be a threat. Though the forms of Islam that I find beautiful (mostly Sufism) are not generally the threatening ones. There’s little beauty or truth in Bin Laden’s version of Islam.

A poll was done between 2006 and 2008: RELIGION: 70% OF WORLD’S POPULATION DISCRIMINATED

It is a short article, but take note of who are discriminated against: “…Catholics, Protestants (especially Evangelicals), Jews, Buddhists and minority Moslem groups irrespectively.”

Who are left doing the persecuting? Majority Muslim groups and Communists but most of the problems arise in Muslim majority countries.

The countries with the highest rates of inter-religious hostility all have Islam/Muslims as one of the groups and also have a government showing degrees of prejudice too. Could be they are allowing Islam into the government laws to some degree or they are afraid. Someone might have a different take on this.

Yes Islam is a threat to Christianity and all people’s who reject Islam as a religion everywhere.
(ANSAmed) - PARIS, JANUARY 5 - Among the restrictions imposed by governments, religious discrimination affects around 70% of the world’s population. This is the finding of a report by the Pew Research Center’s Forum, a US body which aims to set up a databank on religion around the world. It also finds that religious extremism is most concentrated in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. Entitled ‘Global restriction on religion’ and published by the French Catholic daily, La Croix, the study was carried out between mid-2006 and mid-2008 across 198 countries, taking in 99.5% of the world’s population. Researches started from 16 public reports coming from the State Department, the American Commission for International Religious Freedom, the Council of the European Union, the Office of Foreign Affairs for Great Britain and the Commonwealth and from NGOs such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. The report is divided into two parts, on governmental restrictions (GRI, Government Restriction Index) and on inter-religious hostility (SHI, Social Hostilities Index) respectively. GRI examines national and local laws, judicial texts and police-force practices which limit the freedoms to teach or preach, prevent religious conversions or promote one religion above others. These restrictions affect Catholics, Protestants (especially Evangelicals), Jews, Buddhists and minority Moslem groups irrespectively. According to this primary classification, 43 countries have a high or very high rate of government restrictions, especially in countries with a Moslem majority (including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria and Turkey). Therefore, 64 nations, a third of the population, have a high or very high rate of restriction on religious freedom and some (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iran, which the report labels “the trio of the worst”) are in both groups. Other countries, (such as Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, the Philippines, Bangladesh), show strong inter-religious hostility alongside a degree of moderation in governmental discrimination. The lowest rates, both in terms of GRI and of SHI are to be found in Italy, Brazil, Japan, the USA, South Africa, with the highest in the Middle East and North Africa. (ANSAmed).

Unfortunately, there are many blind non-muslims (many who are politicians) who are supporting the cause of islam. I suppose these are necessary for the end of the world to come.

Just wondering… what’s with all the Islam bashing?

On our forum… we debate Christian’s and stuff, but we don’t do this…

You guys are basically making us all out to be terrorists. It’s not true. What’s with this?

Seriously.

Perhaps its due to the persecution Christians recieve in Muslim majority countries. Im unsure if people make out ALL muslims to be bad, which clearly isn;t true, or if it is just the perception muslims here get.

I think though that the problem is there are undisputedly issues between Islam and Christianity, just look at Europe and the middle east, therefore they are discussed here, when evidence shows that Islamic societies are persecuting christians i think that many muslims, you included, get upset, and then make it out that we are persecuting Islam. I must say though this is an open discussion, people are free to criticise (with polite dignity) the catholic church here, and discuss it, therefore it is equally true that people here have frank and open discussions about Islam, if Islam wants to appear here as a welcoming open religion and disprove some peoples ideas about the religion then its members here have to engage in a proper dialogue or otherwise reinforce the beliefs of some people on this thread about Islam.

Not all muslims are terrorists. Some muslims were born into the religion of islam, but if given a choice, they’d rather be something else. Those muslims who are not following the quran are likely non-terrorists. prophetofdoom.net

We often say…that those who commits murder, rape, lying, incest, pedophilia bring shame to christianity. Yet… those who commits murder, rape, lying, incest, pedophilia personifies islam (eg. muhammad). Its the direct opposite.

A self-professed ‘christian’ who blatantly sin violates the teachings of christianity…A self-professed ‘muslim’ who blatantly refuses terrorism violates the teachings of islam.

Now that is hateful Islam bashing. We are called as christians to be kind to our all people, even our enemies. Therefore such spiteful language should not be used if you wish to follow the teachings of christ. Perhaps Islams teachings do encourage terrorism, maybe not. But either way bringing hate and malice to muslims on these forums is definitely not the christian way.

Your ‘christian’ way is to befriend the Anti-Christ ?

1 John 2:22 Who is the Liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Messiah(anointed Savior). Such a man is the Antichrist—he denies the Father (God) and the Son (Jesus).

“I AM THE TRUTH, THE WAY AND THE LIFE. NO MAN GOES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME - JESUS”
.

Of course not. But it does require us not to be hateful to our enemies. Doing that doesn;t make me my enemies friend does it, it simply makes me a more civil person.

Be my guest. You go ahead and be civil to the Anti-Christ. I’m sure God is watching you. Who knows!..maybe you might be able to turn the Anti-Christ to worship God with you.

When that day comes you’ll be a greater person than even Elijah and all men will thank you for helping God to reconcile with Satan.

Civility does not imply friendship. Acting civil to all people even those who are our enemies is part of being christian and a good person. Did not Christ say to love our enemies.

Acting in a non-civil antagonistic malicious way towards muslims, merely makes you appear to be on the same level as those certain muslims who persecute others. Acting kindly to all people even those whom are evil sets us apart from others and shows our way to be the true and correct way. Christ himself never acted maliciously towards the pagans who followed false gods, or to the people who persecuted him, that didn;t make him their friend. We are called to follow in Christs footsteps, to all people, not just to Christians.

These christians had been the greatest terrorists. Hitler being at the head. But they disown Hitler. He had a cross and so did his generals. Another one was Missolini sitting near Vatican, at Rome, who was collaborating with Hitler to exterminate the Jews.

Hitler was not a Muslim.he was not a Hindu. He was not a Jew. Same fr Mussolini. What were they?? Please think over…

Together the two plunged the world in a world war ( II ). It is good that catholics have learnt a good lesson from the bad deeds of Hitler and Mussolini. But still I feel that they are not as good as JW’s (i.e. the Watch tower people) who seem to me more clean, peaceful, keeping away from all bloodshed.

I had been in Europe for a long time. All I saw there was some comfortable life full of sinful people. Those sinful people were not Muslims or Jews or Hindus or Budhists. The Catholics should know who were those sinful people.

Finding faults with Islam and Islam bashing is not easy. The Catholics will not get away with that job easily. Islam had not always been as it is today. It has a very good bright peaceful, lawful history. The catholics have no law. They only depend on man made secular laws. So what use is their religion which does not teach them good ways of living.

Jesus was a Jew and a good teacher. He abided by the Mosaic law, which his seemingly name sake followers have abondoned on flimsy grounds. We do not like that. We love Jesus and we wish that his name sake followers should live and work like Jesus did. We will be with them, to support them. Until then we do not see anything religiusly good in the present day christians.

They are teaching us some good things. But we already know those good things by reading the bibleOT and NT and Quran. Like Muslims, the christians are also divided badly in many sects with serious differing beliefs. They cannot settle their mutual differences. They are only united in Islam bashing. What use is that to us !!! WE do not see much LOVE in them. I request the Christians to show some Love please and not inward hatred.

You’re right. Christ never acted maliciously towards the pagans. But then He never acted maliciously to ANYONE! The only people He detested was those who made a mockery of His faith (eg. those at the temple doing trades/business).

Christ said to love YOUR enemies. He didn’t tell you to love HIS enemies.
