The sin is lessoned by lack of intention and possibly ignorance, but I don’t think you can say that a sin isn’t there.
Whether I can say it or not does not matter. The Church says it.
There may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s unacceptable position
even on policies promoting an intrinsically evil act may reasonably decide to vote for that
candidate for other morally grave reasons. Voting in this way would be permissible only for truly grave moral reasons, not to advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a fundamental moral evil.

Well, Republicans often start wars for business reasons, to procure natural resources, which end up killing thousands or millions also. Are unborn lives more important than the lives of, say, Vietnamese peasants?

I agree with this.

It would be permissioable to vote for a Democrat ONLY FOR GRAVE MORAL REASONS.

Also of interest in that article. The Conscience must be formed in Accord with human reason AND the teaching of the Catholic Church. Conscience is not about doing whatever we want or.what we.feel is right. It’s the word of God resounding in our hearts

A morally good act requires the goodness of the object, of the end, and of the circumstances together ccc 1760

There are concrete acts that it is always wrong to choose because the thier choice entails a disorder of the will, ie a moral evil. One may not do evil so that good can come of it 1761ccc

Conclusion. I will conceed that your prolife candidate has to be absolutely horrible for you to vote against him and not cause scandal.

There are a handful of Democrats trying to change the party from within. It would not be sinful to vote for one of them. As to the rest, yes, it would be sinful to vote for them. Mind you, this does not mean it is morally obligatory to vote for the Republican; you may vote third party, cast a write-in vote, or, after carefully considering the candidates, abstain.

Since we are saved through Baptism and the unborn don’t get to participate in Baptism I’d say yes the unborn lives take precedence.

What are you talking about? I’m pretty sure the last time the United States started a war to territory and/or natural resources was the Mexican-American War.

Gravely moral is not the same as horrible. One is rhetoric, the other has a real theological meaning. Also, the teaching is on voting for candidates. The Democrat might be more pro-life than the Republican in some elections.

There was also the Spanish-American War. Then there were the ideological wars.

Spanish-American War is debatable. There was an expansionist contingent, but there were also a decent number who were convinced that Spain blew up the USS Maine.

Is the Democrat pro-Choice? If so, then it is a grave sin.

This is not a complicated issue.

Indeed. As I stated before voting Republican is questionable because they very on topics like abortion. You show me a pro life democracts running again a pro choice Republican and I’ll vote Democrat. Since prolife democrats are the exception and not the norm you need a GRAVE MORAL REASON to vote Democrat.

Will you also concede that the judgement of whether or not that candidate is absolutely horrible lies with the voter?
The topic is. “Is it a grave sin to vote democrat?” Not, “do I have the freedom to vote Democrat?”

You can judge anything you want.

Even if you eliminate the pro-life issue, the Republican Party is better than the Democratic Party on the following:
  • support of police and law and order
  • religious liberty
  • freedom from unnecessary government control of personal property (as in socialism, communism, and fascism)
  • free speech
  • an largely free-market economic system that best fights poverty (the USA has the lowest poverty rate)
  • freedom to choose private health insurance
  • economic policies that best help minorities (lowest unemployment in their history), as opposed to useless rhetoric.
  • Democrats and their media friends lack decorum, as they consistently play the race card, as if calling someone a racist automatically should terminate any further discussion of any issue.
  • protection of our borders against drug cartels (most of our heroin and opioids come through the southern border), against dangerous gangs like MS-13, and against sex trafficking
  • protection of the integrity of our voting system with mandatory voter identification
  • APPOINTING JUDGES WHO SUPPORT THE ABOVE ITEMS*

My question is the same. If you want me to include the precise language that connects it to the topic of the thread I will:

“Will you concede that for the purposes of determining if the act is a grave sin, the judgement of the whether or not the nominally pro-life candidate is absolutely horrible lies with the voter?”

That is, if a particular voter judges that a candidate is absolutely horrible, even if you think that candidate is the best thing since sliced bread, might that voter still be able to vote for the opponent of that candidate, even if that opponent is on record as favoring abortion rights?

agreed, but taken further

even if the dem is pro-life the majority of dems are still pro-choice. the majority will vote to expand abortion and the few pro-life dems won’t change the DNC’s abortion on demand agenda. it is better to vote as to oppose the dems.

There aren’t many pro-life Democratic Party politicians.
  • Here is the House of Representatives vote to ban abortion after 20 weeks (when babies are Pain-Capable): Democrats: only 3 voted “yes” to ban 20-week abortions, and 187 “voted no”. Republicans: 234 “yes” to ban 20-week abortions, and only 2 voted “no".
  • All 50 Senate Republicans present voted in favor of the Born-Alive Protection Bill, while only 3 out of 47 Democrats voted to protect babies BORN from failed abortions.
  • At the state levels, Democrat Governors from Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Montana rejected Born-Alive efforts, while Democrat controlled legislatures in New York, Illinois, Rhode Island, and Vermont recently passed abortion-to-birth laws. On the other hand, Republican Governors in Georgia and Kentucky recently signed pro-life laws.
  • President Trump might be the most actively pro-life President in American history.
