Is it a liturgical abuse - or even a sin - to renew your marriage vows?

It would be nice if the OP could link the article he was referring to. Everything has context. No, we do not need to renew our vows, but no, it is not a liturgical abuse. Simply, there is no renewal liturgy to be abused.

On the other hand, I see the point behind it and believe it to be a good thing on many levels. It helps us frail humans remember our priorities. It serves as an example of fidelity to younger couples. It keeps the husband out of hot water for telling his wife it is a silly gesture he wants nothing to do with.

And can actually get him brownie points if he is prescient enough to be the one to suggest it! It could even wipe out the loss from giving the wrong answer to the question “Do these jeans make me look fat?” 😃
