Your logic is as strong as your faith, raaucoin!:clapping:Can’t answer that for you. I can tell you that I remind myself to see Jesus in every man I meet. I am a woman who was hurt by a man. This has allowed me to heal and not to view men as people who are out to hurt me. As a lesbian who lives according to Church teaching, I also remind myself to see the Blessed Mother in every woman I meet. It’s hard to let an appreciation of beauty and feminine strength move into lust when you know Your Holy Momma is present.
Actually, you know a lot, tlimon. Beautiful post! No, I’m not offended at all. I couldn’t say for sure, but that’s how I thought SSA individuals were wired. We’re not really any different in that regard.
I do think that God makes people beautiful for a purpose. Like I mentioned before about kind, smiling people being approachable, I think there is something about physical attraction that does not have to do with lust or sex that God intended beauty to be used for.
There is a SOLT sister in Seattle who does a lot of talks about theology of the body (Sr. Miriam Heidland - I think). She was/is super pretty. She was a varsity college volleyball player and her boyfriend was the star quarterback and all that jazz. Well, eventually it left her feeling spiritually dry and she turned back to the faith.
Long story short, she gave a speech about Arch Bishop Fulton Sheen. While on a flight, Bishop sheen observed a strikingly beautiful flight attendant. He pondered her beauty (not lustfully I assume) and as she walked by he told her, “Let me know when you wish to use your beauty for God.” He gave her his contact information and parted ways. Some time later the woman called him and said, “I’m ready.” Bishop Sheen had her go on a mission to a leper colony where she became, quite possibly, the only beautiful person the lepers had ever seen.
I’ve had interesting experiences with perfect 10s myself. I’ve made pretty good friends with some of them. There was a chearleader during my undergrad who was a super smart polisci major. I took a lot of classes with her and we struck up a friendship. Basically, she kind of hated being beautiful. People oggled her, expected sex from her, thought she was “stuck up”, unintelligent, ect. With all the baggage that comes with being so pretty, it seems God has more use for a person such as that other than modeling careers, chear leading, and their pick of successful and attractive men.
I can’t help but think that there can be an innocent underlying pull created by physical human beauty that escapes the pull of sex and lust. Or, even though it contributes to the pull toward sex and lust, that the pull can be sublimated turned toward something pleasing to God.
But meh, what do I know?
Admiring their beauty is not sinful. But some people have a problem with that admiration turning into lust, which of course is sinful. If admiring someone’s beauty was sinful why would God create people like Gorgeous George and have them join the priesthood?
Very true, unfortunately people don’t seem to get it an lust over him. I think it is absolutely horrible for men and women to lust over a man of the cloth. Some people have deeply disturbing “ideas” of why Monsignor Georg Gaenswein is the Pope’s secretary. Then there are people with the far more innocent idea that if there is a relationship (more than friendship) between them it would be similar to Blessed Newman’s relationship with Ambrose St. John (which would be a deep relationship, but entirely non-sexual).Admiring their beauty is not sinful. But some people have a problem with that admiration turning into lust, which of course is sinful.
And you know this because? If your god doesn’t allow you to be who you are then it’s not a god worth believing in…I apologize if my opinion offends any of you…i do have respect for religion to a certain extent…but if he is gay then he will never be happy until he’s acted upon it…Fact.
Experience…I’m bisexual…i had never acted upon any homosexual urges and i was miserable…I loved my girlfriend very much…but something was always missing…when i broke up with her…the opportunity was given to me and i took it…I’m now finally comfortable with myself and i have NEVER been happier =)And you know this because?
I think this is going too far. I would not discuss faults of my marriage or wife with another woman, esp. if I felt some kind of mutual attraction may already exist…She is married as am I. We confess things about our marriages to each other
That is a very good point! If admiring someone’s beauty was sinful why would God create people like Gorgeous George and have them join the priesthood?

Are you serious? If admiring someone’s beauty was sinful why would God create people like Gorgeous George and have them join the priesthood?
If you mean suggesting God isn’t a sick sadistic bastard who loves condemning people to Hell then yes.Are you serious?
I agree, its a mortal sin, thoughts of lust are mortal sins if you did not reject the thought in your mind or if you had given your concent I thinkAre you serious?
You’re kidding right? Just because you find something attractive doesn’t mean you want to shag it…Okay, so how is a male finding another male ‘attractive’, NOT lust?
Riiiight. You’re kidding right? Just because you find something attractive doesn’t mean you want to shag it…
Could you please stop projecting your inadequacies onto others?Riiiight.
