“if you had the body for it”…hmmm this smacks of pride and worship of the creature over the creator. Bikinis do nit give glory to God, but glorify the creature. What is so hard to see about this?
Oh please, its about knowing I wouldn’t look good in certain clothes, be it a dress, a pair of pants or even a swimsuit. Its nothing about pride or worship, but honestly saying I’m out of shape and wanting to be in better shape is about God and taking care of my body that he created. Right now, I’m not there but I have a plan and I’m going to wear a nice cut swimsuit again when I reach my goal.

If they are overweight-yes. Sames goes for men wearing spandex swimming trunks.

SO you cans show off about what you did. It is a “llok at me” mentality. Like I said, pride and body worship.

Is it? Just wondering.
If your with your husband in private, probably not.

I don’t think most women wear bikinis to be immodest, but I think they are being immodesty regardless.

If I have young daughters, they won’t be wearing bikinis!

Yeah that’s me, all about showing off, I can’t wait to parade down the street. You know me oh so well, I say sarcastically.

If I want to wear a bikini around my husband and in certain situations, so be it. Go ahead and judge that its all about pride.

I’m coming back for one more comment and then I promise I will not post in this thread again.

You are extremely judgmental. It’s not your place to judge Patrice, me, or any other person in this world.

Do you shave? Do you get your hair cut? Do you buy clothes that fit and make you look better or do you wear rags and let your hair get all long and dirty and stringy? Do you take showers? Do you buy shoes or do you walk barefoot?

It’s all SO you cans show off about what you did. It is a “llok at me” mentality. Like you said, pride and body worship.

Just like YOU said.

Not judgmental. I am calling sin for what it is. There is a difference between shaving, bathing, keeping fit, etc and wearing clothing that has but a single purpose: to show off the body. I f you want to dress like a stripper, that is up to you, but it can never be called anything other than immodest

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

I broke my promise. Sorry. I’m outta here.

Patrice, my (ancient) opinion is to go on ahead and sport that bikini if you feel like it’s “you;” not all bikinis are those absurd “cover the law and not much else” sort of “swim” suits. If you try to wear something closely related to a burqua or one of those “coverall” swimsuits from the nineteenth century, people will simply think you’re trying to be scrupulously and overly “modest.” IMHO, that’s eminently as bad as the “holier-than-thou” alternate extreme.

And when you’re alone with your husband, even a bikini might be too much coverage…

😉

Actually I was trying to look like Ester Williams. She has a bikini on her site that is my goal, and my husband’s request for our upcoming vacation.

Good Lord, is that gal still alive??

She was a swimsuit “It girl” back when I was in High School… 🙂

Yes

At least in our culture.

Maybe not if you’re in the privacy of your own home, but in public? Yes it’s a sin.
So if I wear a bikini in public like to the beach where its mostly common & the swimming pool its a sin.?

I mean isn’t that the swimming attire for a woman in the summer time.?

This Is Just my opinion but I don’t think wearing a bikini is immodest at all or in the least. its one of the things I look forward too in the summer time. going to the beach & laying out sunbathing it sure beats the tanning bed.

when you can go to the beach the beach is free

& even in your own back yard your still in public so there is no private place to wear a bikini unless your inside your house.

In your yard you have neighbors next door so its not private

What are women suppose to swim in if Bikinis are considered a sin.?

I believe in Jesus Christ As My Savior. Peace

Apparently it is, according to some people.

I wholeheartedly agree. There are extremes, of course, like some of the “bikini suits” which consist of little more (maybe less!) than a couple of band-aids and a hanky. But a “bikini” swim suit which adequately covers her boobs, her “back cheeks” and in which a woman can swim, seems perfectly all right to me.
What are women suppose to swim in if Bikinis are considered a sin.?
Apparently a top-to-toe gunny sack… or maybe a burqua… in some people’s minds…

I believe that there is more arousal and more temptations in male minds from curiosity about what is being hidden than what is actually revealed.
Human imaginations tend to take a subtle hint and run wild with it.
again, not casting stones. Just calling sin for what it is.
Let’s correct that quotation: “again, not casting stones. Just calling sin for what I think it is.”

You are entitled to your opinion, even though I consider it to be incorrect.

Is it a sin for women to wear bikinis? What does the Church define on dress for activities such as beach, swimming, and sport activities?

I went to a Catholic Mens Conference at Bishop Verot High School, Fort Myers,FL in January. Curtis Martin and Jesse Romero were some of the speakers.

I’M TALKING TO THE CATHOLIC MEN here and some of you know in your conscience who you are.

As a man I can definitely tell you where bikini wear would be sinful.

“So-called” gentlemens clubs (go-go bars). Men’s excuses for not having sex with them but only “seeing them”. More excuses, they go to a “non- topless”. SIN, STAY AWAY FROM THESE PLACES. GO TO CONFESSION

Mens Magazines that exploit women to fuel mens lusts:

MAXIM, STUFF, Stare, etc. Most mens magazines that have pictures of women as objects of sexual desire, lust. These are the deceptions of a “so called milder form” compared to Playboy, Penthouse etc. The “so called boys will be boys”," pleasures for men". SIN, GO TO CONFESSION AND PUT THESE MAGAZINES OUT WITH THE GARBAGE.

Bikini web sites that portray women in immoral behavior “tittilation”, with provocative gestures and body positions. STAY AWAY FROM THESE SITES (Bikini Riot, Bikini Dream etc.) SOME OF YOU MEN KNOW THE SITES. SIN, STAY AWAY FROM THESE SITES AND GO TO CONFESSION.

Very deadly sinful bikini sites. The newer form of pornography that will lead men into sites of more nudity and graphic immoral sexual behavior along with XXX adult film sites.

I had for years problem with this. Numerous confessions along with counseling from priests.I quit smoking and drinking years ago. Provocative bikini literature and websites have been the hardest for me to get out of. Even certain drug dealers and drug users state their past drug lifestyle was easier to leave than pornography.

I am still trying to learn how the Church deals with these issues. I attend Confession once a month minimum. I recommend you men do the same.

If you do fall in these sins again, don’t beat yourself down. Go to confession again. Actually, many of today’s priests want you to come to confession more often to help through Jesus Christ to bring you back up. I’M SICK AND TIRED OF SMALL CONFESSION LINES AND LACK OF MEN AT THE CHURCH PARISHES. QUIT PUTTING MASS ON THE SUNDAY DAY PLANNER. GOD IS FIRST ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY THE REST OF THE WORLD CAN WAIT. IF THE WORLD CANT WAIT TOO BAD THATS BETWEEN THEM AND GOD.

My past life was hanging with alcohlics, perverts and sex abusers and being one myself.

I am trying to learn to live more for Jesus Christ. I have been victim of “sexual addictions” and “approval addictions” most of my life. Day by day I want to be mainly approved by God not by the “World”.

Conversion and repentance is daily and can be done. It is a DISCIPLINE AND WORK. I have been noticing the changes about my self.

NOW THE WOMEN. Many of you have researched on Church teaching on modesty. Very excellent. I don’t know Church much in depth on modesty of swimwear and understand due to certain factors (sizing, fit, pregnancy, medical) can be reasons for two piece swimwear. I’m only speaking on my own opinion.

Today’s “world” in many cases has pushed the swimwear designs quite a bit too far beyond modesty even to the front covers of magazines at the supermarket, and continues to make big money doing it. ( $75.00 to about $200 for a mini bikini ?, thong? Materials the swimwear company uses cost about probably less than a few dollars if not a dollar each).

Interesting how does the Church deal with Brazil and thier swimwear?

In my opinion, on the beach, swimming areas ok. If the Church states this wrong, I would like information that could clearly define this.

As for me ? Discipline and self- mastery as St. Paul wrote. To do violence to my worldly desires and passions for the flesh.

I am not spouting opinion. Immodesty is a sin. If there is such a thing as a “modest bikini” I have yet to see one. Why can people not respect their bodies, instead of transforming themselves into mere objects of desire.

It is unfortunate that people ignore Church teaching and accuse people of only having opinions. This is wrong. Yes, some so-called bikinis are little more than a few pieces of string and less than a handkerchief worth of material.

I was there when the mini-skirt was introduced (1960s). It was a scandal. Period. Got that? People complained but the intelligentsia, the fashion designers, and champions of what they claim about the First Amendment were all against us.

Freedom of Expression was the Same Excuse they used to say TOPLESS GO-GO BARS were OK. Freedom of expression. That’s why STRIPPER quietly changed to EXOTIC DANCER over the last 10 years.

It is very important for people to realize that the Playboy Philosophy was designed to make people think that casual nudity and casual sex were all OK. And they ran a lot of high-brow articles, and interviews with “important” people to let people know that the modern man (back in the 1960s) should embrace the Playboy Philosophy, and Here We Are Today.

So - should women walk around on public beaches mostly naked? The answer is no.

God bless,
Ed

The Church has no fashions and will not conform her sense of modesty to what the world deems acceptable. The last official decree on the subject set the standards for female modesty to be tops that go no further than 2 fingers width from the collar bone all the way around the neck. Sleeves to the elbow. And skirts covering the knees whilst standing or sitting.

Those are your standards as Catholics ladies, until otherwise noted.

And I think that rules out 1 piece suits too!

All I the posts I see from the angry bikini defending women may as well just say, “Whatever! I do what I want!” Or, “I will not serve.”

Yes, some men are weak, and some men have no sense of sin at all. So be charitable in your dress!

It is this type of thinking that led to the Burka. If you cant look at a woman in a Bikini without thinking lusftful thought thats your problem-not hers.
