Is it correct that in Genesis creation story plants were created before the sun was?

They say that the first life arose on earth only 300,000 years or so after earth had formed. The atmosphere was totally different then but the first life was, I think, more of a plant-like character, single celled mostly with chlorophyll, I think.
And God said: Let there be lights made in the firmament of heaven, to divide the day and the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years: [15] To shine in the firmament of heaven, and to give light upon the earth. And it was so done.
[16] And God made two great lights: a greater light to rule the day; and a lesser light to rule the night: and the stars. [17] And he set them in the firmament of heaven to shine upon the earth. It could possibly be that at this point in time He set the motion of the earths rotation and orbit into its final form ‘’…to divide the day and the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years: [15] To shine in the firmament of heaven, and to give light upon the earth.
Also notice that the moon was created, or finished, at this stage also.
So according to Genesis. The earth was created, shortly after that the first plant types of life were created, then the moon was finished, then the animal life was created.
And he set them in the firmament of heaven to shine upon the earth. [18] And to rule the day and the night, and to divide the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good. [19] And the evening and morning were the fourth day. [20] God also said: Let the waters bring forth the creeping creature having life, and the fowl that may fly over the earth under the firmament of heaven.
Science tells the same story;
The earth was created, plant-lifeforms were created soon after that, then the moon finished forming, then the animal-life forms were created.

It’s been stated that the odd order was intentional.
The ancients worshiped the celestial bodies as gods.
Genesis demotes them to mere creations of the One True God.
Then Genesis further demotes them by stating that the biggest celestial body in the heavens (the Sun) isn’t really even necessary, as God can create plant life without the effects of the sun.
The whole idea is to demote the sun and other celestial bodies from godhood.

(And it was dark in the beginning).

I didn’t mean that light was divided into instruments somehow.
I only meant that the OP was not talking about the command “Let there be light” but only the sun which was created AFTER the let there be light command.

The command let their be light can’t be talking about Christ because Christ already existed, Christ is also not something that was created.
As for the light being the revelation of Christ, I don’t think so because that would make it the ONLY verse in the passage referring to something other than the physical creation of he cosmos. It’s interesting though…
I tend to think of the “let there be light” command to be moment of the big bang creation of the cosmos, since it would have initially been an overwhelming burst of light, later becoming separated (divided) from the darkness of space.

“Let there be Light” can’t refer to the Big Bang, because the earth already existed before the “Let there be Light” command.

Possibly not. The first line, ‘In the beginning…’ - is a way of introducing what this is about, then it continues to set out the order in which the heavens and earth etc. were created. But you have to be creative.

When God created the heavens and the earth… then it says the earth was void and empty, so the earth was created with no life. And then it goes into the detail. And God said: Be light made. And light was made. And so on.
