Is it easier for women to have a deep relationship with Christ because they’re female?

I’m not sure if it’s easier (although I would tend to think so) or just different.

I would imagine that a man’s relationship with Christ is different, although I’m not sure if I, as a woman, could explain.

I think it’s easier for a woman to “fall in love” with Christ and to have a love relationship akin to Mary Magdalen’s devotion to Jesus. I guess with a man, it would be comparable to Peter or John’s devotion to Him.

Yes. Also it is easier for men to have a deep relationship with Mary because they’re male.
Respectfully, I disagree with this statement. I have a very close relationship with Our Lady, despite being a woman. She is my Mother! And I also love Our Lord Jesus, very dearly. But that isn’t because He is male… and I’m female. It’s because He’s my Lord and Creator!

I don’t understand the logic in this question. Why would a man NOT have as deep a relationship with Our Lord… (or a woman, with Our Lady)… simply because of shared gender? Remember, it was St. John (also a male) who was referred to as “The Disciple Jesus loved”.

We could just as easily ask… “Does Our Lord have a deeper relationship with brown eyed persons, over blue eyed persons?”.

Of course not! Our Lord and Our Lady loves each and every single one of us… DEARLY and PRECIOUSLY. Believe it! God bless. 🙂

I am not implying that men don’t have as deep a relationship with Jesus as women do. But what I am asking is whether it is** easier** for women to come close to Christ and have a deep relationship because they are female.

I think that in general it is. It’s perhaps easy for women to relate to Our Lady too because she’s our mother, but Jesus is not the Father, so guys like me have a bit of difficulty finding out that they love Jesus.

At least it took a while for me to relate to Our Lord in a loving way without sounding gay. 😃

:blessyou:

I voted Yes.

It has to do with the way we Love. How we are built to Love.

God the father, son and holy spirt are givers (male)
Females are built to receive \ respond to that.

Men are built to be givers, they don’t respond as well to be given to. Men fall in Love with the church (a female entity).

I know this sounds wired but personally my emotions to the church is much more deep than to Jesus. I see the church as in need and she calls to me to respond. Just as I do to real females.

I think this has allot to do with why only men can be priests. We can fall in Love with the church.

You can see this same argument in same sex marriages. It does not quite work out. Although if you look closely at same sex relationships you will notice there is usually a male figure and female figure even though they are the same gender.

Theology of the Body has a lot to say about this.

God Bless,
John

I’m glad you asked this question - you do have a lot of interesting ones!

Your question is a thought that has been rolling around in my head lately. I’ve pondered the opening line of Song of Songs:
“Let him kiss me with kisses of his mouth!”

As a female I am totally cool with that. But I can’t help but wonder if the men out there are thinking, “how about just a hug or a handshake, Lord.” :o

I don’t really have an answer for you, but I’ve seen some really insightful ones so far. I am interested in other folks’ thoughts on your question.

I agree, it is an interesting question. I’m a guy and have an extremely intimate love relationship with Christ. But I know that women tend to be more spiritually sensitive, generally speaking, and more emotional, so I can easily imagine them tending to more easily develop such intimacy. On the other hand, in human families, male children have very loving relationships with their fathers. They just aren’t so cuddly ;). I don’t know if I can venture an opinion on this.

No, you don’t need to worry about that :D. The Song of Songs uses magnificent physical symbols to reflect spiritual realities, and the Church is feminine. My relationship to God is feminine. Just as the Epistles say women should submit to their husbands, I submit to Christ. He is my leader. He comforts me in time of emotional distress. He is my strong defender and champion. In my relationships with women or men, I am masculine, but in my relationship to God, my rightful role, as well as the rightful role for all of the Church, is feminine. So I’m glad he refers to us in feminine terms in the scripture. It’s very natural.

Also, when I read these scriptures I think about the Church also as a single entity, and these scriptures refer to it. Jesus prayed we would be one just as he and his Father are one. A kind of Trinity with millions of heads, but one being united in an intimate marital relationship with Christ.

Certainly very interesting to think about!

Just curious…why would it be ‘easier?’
I found this on Peter Kreeft’s website:
Julie Loesch Wiley argues that if Jesus had been born a woman in the male-dominated world of the first century, his life and teaching of unselfish love for others would not have been as arresting and as instructively scandalous as it was. For women, in all times and places and cultures until modern feminism, have always been in general more altruistic, less power-greedy, less violence-prone, more self-emptying, and more naturally religious than men. (You still see more women than men in church.) In becoming a man, Jesus in a sense let women be and went after men to transform them—not into women, and certainly not into wimps, but into men like himself. He redefined manliness and power as the courage to suffer instead of the lust to dominate; giving instead of taking. Women were a little less in need of that lesson.

Perhaps being close to Jesus is easier for women because we are by nature more religious.

I like that quote “Jesus in a sense let women be and went after the men to transform them”. Very masculine.

I’ve been pondering this subject for quite a while. I’ve always wondered how men relate to Christ. I was actually just reading mulieris dignitatem before I jumped over to CAF.

Women can fall in love with Jesus pretty easily because he is the perfect Man — gave himself completely, totally, fully to his bride, never violated her, he protects her purity, provides for her, and he was courageous too. What a Man!❤️
That authentic masculinity is very attractive to us feminine-types. Even in times of personal spiritual dryness, reflecting on those attributes can stir a woman’s heart. And of course, Christ being our Lord and King is a huge part of that.

I am not implying that men don’t have as deep a relationship with Jesus as women do. But what I am asking is whether it is** easier** for women to come close to Christ and have a deep relationship because they are female.
First, I’d like to comment on “NTOT’s” remark that “women fall easier into emotional relationships”. A truly intimate relationship with God is far more than simply “emotional”, whether you are male or female. A person might argue… “but emotions are the first thing that bring us into a relationship”. Yes, that could probably be said… of human relationships. But our “relationship” with God, goes much deeper than mere “emotions”. Our relationship with God… was initiated BY God (not by our own emotions). From HIS love for me (and you)… before time began.

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart for My holy purpose.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

“iaskquestions”… yes, I understood your basic question. But I don’t understand the logic IN the question. Or perhaps, I am simply astounded to find out that there are Christian males who do NOT have as close a relationship with Our Lord Jesus… as they ought to have, or would like to have, simply because they share the same gender. I don’t understand how this could possibly hold them back?

If they hesitate ONLY because Jesus is male… well, what kind of a reason is that? He is not just a MAN. He is GOD! Please help me to understand this, gentlemen. Because I don’t. Jesus loves each and every single one of you! Why would you hesitate to make Him your very Best Friend? 🤷

God bless.

I’ll not speak about how women feel on this topic, ya’ll are doin just fine, and I lack the competence.

The Song of Songs is not a book of Holy Scripture that I am capable of being fed by. I can appreciate the lover and His bride business, but Only like watching a movie. I Cannot put myself in the position of the woman, girl, honeybunny, whatever. I’m sorry but this is a case of too much being unhelpful.

Now you want to talk about the passion, O.K… Laying down your life for those whom you love, O.K…
Just my two cents.

First, I’d like to comment on “NTOT’s” remark that “women fall easier into emotional relationships”. A truly intimate relationship with God is far more than simply “emotional”, whether you are male or female.
That woman are prone to be easily swayed by their emotions is a biological fact. That is why it is easier for women to have a spiritual feeling and touchy feely religious relationship with God. By the same way, those (fewer) men who have real authentic relationships with God are more likely to love God for God. They are not as likely to run away when the spiritual feeling runs dry or the emotion runs out. They are strong in their faith and have true love for God. I would disagree with the poster who said men love the Church more than God. We are to love God first, man or woman.
A person might argue… “but emotions are the first thing that bring us into a relationship”.
Again, moreso with women, but not exclusively with women. It cannot be said that men in relationships do not have a seriously strong emotional attachment. Ask any man who has been engaged and the engagement was abruptly ended by the woman. At that point in a serious relationship, the emotional attachment for men has developed and the roots are solid. Women likely had a strong emotional attachment from the get go, but it was not solid and less likely to be true love.
Yes, that could probably be said… of human relationships. But our “relationship” with God, goes much deeper than mere “emotions”. Our relationship with God… was initiated BY God (not by our own emotions). From HIS love for me (and you)… before time began.
Emotional love is easier for women, authentic and developing, but lasting relationship is more likely with men.
If they hesitate ONLY because Jesus is male… well, what kind of a reason is that? He is not just a MAN. He is GOD!
Exactly. It is not a reason not to love God with all ones mind and heart.
Please help me to understand this, gentlemen. Because I don’t. Jesus loves each and every single one of you! Why would you hesitate to make Him your very Best Friend?
Being female, I would like to know as well.

Of course I would make Him my best friend but i would not marry Him. He is a male. I think you have to be male to understand.

Personaly I don’t feel an itimate relationship with God / Jesus. Jesus is my Lord. I would do anything for him as such. It could just be me because I am young in faith but I do feel a stronger connection to the church.

Male and females are different, we love different. We are naturaly attracted to the opposite sex. It is God’s design.

God servant,
John

Thank you for explaining this. I didn’t know how to do it, but you said it much better than I could. My relationship with Jesus is not purely emotional. In fact, I am rarely overcome by feelings like that. Only during a really good time of prayer or a really awesome Mass am I overcome with emotion. My relationship with Him most of the time is one that is different from my relationship with people. And that is how it should be, because He is God. To compare my feelings toward Jesus to other men (or worse–a significant other 🤷) would be much, much too inaccurate. Not to mention rather disgusting. I don’t want to marry Jesus.
