Buddy would seem quite odd. If anything it seems more like a father, while there is a bond of love there, there also is push of trying to be better not to disappoint. The expectations are not unreasonable, after all if you meet them in the end there will be far more joy and a feeling of contentment than without. So you don’t want to disappoint out of love and out of what’s for the best. If you fall though, in a strong relationship, it’s ok, but it is not ok to quit.To describe that as a “buddy” I think is wrong.Okay, seriously now…
The OP asked a very good question, and too many of ushave seriously digressed. Let’s get back to the original question.
I would be interested in hearing from any man in this thread who has not yet responded… can you describe your relationship with the Lord? I mean, where a woman might use words like having a “love” relationship with Christ, is a man’s like a “buddy” relationship with Jesus?
Hi Gemmarose,That’s funny… I thought most women’s #1 cross was their husband.
That’s really beautiful.Hi Gemmarose,
from a mans point and I have told my wife this, that my first love is, will always be Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Father.
Therefore my first cross will always be that which the Father gives me, but not as a cross but as the gift of that which pertains to the love of God I am given in the form of God’s will, not surpassing the grace to endure that which pleases my loving Fathers Joy.
Godbless
Hi GemmaRoseThat’s really beautiful.
I think that also is essential for a solid Catholic marriage – for (ideally) both spouses to put the Lord first… before each other, before the children.
***I’ll never understand how marriages not grounded in faith survive.
