Then contact your local civil court for information. Even if not physically in session they likely have someone answering phones or e-mails. They can tell you what you need to do to get the process started. Keep in mind though that the governor has put in place a moratorium on evictions effective until I believe August, so it may be some time before you get relief.

I am not sure it matters one way or the other to social services. It might actually be to her advantage for her to admit she is not a legal tenant anywhere.

Yes I thought of that too! Thx…I think I’ll give her a month and a half to leave and if she doesnt then I’ll pursue action…this way I would be giving her about 3 months which was my goal

She may need to return to Trinidad. That sounds harsh but at 63 she will most likely not be able to find work here (if she wants to work), especially considering the economy right now. If she can collect Social Security or some other assistance, she should, if not, going back home to family may be the best option. I live in NYC. It is a tough place and not the right place if you don’t have resources to pull you out of a bad situation and it doesn’t even sound like she cares to try. I’ve recovered from many setbacks here due to seeking education and working hard. If she is not willing or able to do that, this may not be the place for her.
