I have simply reminded her of the Church’s teaching and told her that it is a matter between her and God if she chooses to follow or reject this.Perhaps I’m assuming wrong, but if you’ve been in a conversation with her, you’ve brought up what’s “wrong” about what she’s doing.
She has no intention of leaving the Lutheran church. She doesn’t just attend, she is a member there. Sorry, but we can’t have it both ways. And it’s not once a year – it’s more like twice a month that I see her at Mass. I’m delighted that she takes the time to bring her poor old mother to church. It’s a wonder that Mama doesn’t say something to her, but maybe she’s afraid that doing so will estrange the daughter ever further from Catholicism. So what is “wrong” about this woman receiving communion once a year in the Catholic Church with her mother?
CCC 1400: Ecclesial communities derived from the Reformation and separated from the Catholic Church, “have not preserved the proper reality of the Eucharistic mystery in its fullness, especially because of the absence of the sacrament of Holy Orders.” It is for this reason that, for the Catholic Church, Eucharistic intercommunion with these communities is not possible.
