OK - I hunt. I have rifles (Savage 99 in .308 is my fave!). I eat deer meat. And I don’t confess it!
I’ll just list a few points: At one time I was rabidly anti-hunting (I was a vegetarian Franciscan Friar for 6 years!!!), but my beliefs have changed and developed.
Hunting is part of who we are as humans. We have hunted for millenia: and God made us in his image!
Hunting made us human - hunting, cooking and eating meat helped our brains develop.
Hunting is not cruel. Most prey animals die a far crueler natural death by predation or starvation.
Hunting improves the population of the species. Hunting a deer population responsibly keeps it more healthy and more vibrant.
Hunting is the eating of a naturally renewable food resource that does no damage to the environment. Hunting is the most eco friendly food harvesting that can be done.
Hunting means that you are eating the most healthy food around.
Hunting means that you are participating in nature and in the cycle of life, and in the food cycle, not just standing by passively and allowing big business and big government to decide what and how you should eat.
Finally hunting and killing an animal brings you closer to it in a more spiritual way than you can imagine.
BTW it is illegal in Canada anyway to just shoot something and leave it to rot. You have to use the whole carcass.
