If God is the only one who determines how is a Muslim then do you just assume that everyone is a Muslim and treat them accordingly?
Hey Maranatha

Anyone who says “i bear witness that there is no god but God and that Mohamed is His messenger” I consider this person a muslim. i do not try to investigate what is in their hearts for that is not my job. If a person says “God has a daughter” than this person is not a muslim, b/c he/she has assigned a partner to God and i cant accept that belief system. But it has nothing to do with whether i treat them kindly or not

I am kind to muslims and non-muslims alike b/c this is the way a muslim is supposed to be…it is not for YOU, but actually for ME…do you know what i mean?

I really do hope that my words are getting through, b/c i dont always know how to phrase things.

it’s not ok for anybody to torture anybody!!!

hitler, stalin, sadam, tamerlane, idi amin, ghengis khan, all the other monsters.

i agree. torture is unacceptable for anybody regardless ot their race, color, religion, or sex.

Traditional Ang:
After the recent Tsunami, The Government of Sri Lanka refused to accept a field hospital and other rescue equipment and personnel from ISRAEL, because Islamist extremists controlled much of the area that had been severely effected by the Tsunami. The Islamists would have shot at the Israelis and prevented them from doing their job rather than allow lives to be saved.

The Israeli rescue and medical teams were IN THE AIR ON THE WAY to Sri Lanka when they were recalled. The teams were willing to brave the bullets from the Islamists if they thought they could save lives. Both of their governments had to convince the RESCUE TEAMS that the Islamists would rather watch their FELLOW MUSLIMS DIE than risk allowing the Israelis to save ANY OF THEM, so they would use more than just bullets to stop their rescue efforts.
I can say the same about Banda Acheh in Malaysia. The Saudi government threatened the Malaysian government with sanctions if it kept accepting “western influences” like clean water and medical care. My source is one of the rescuers who was there for several weeks. The way it was explained went something like this: “If Allah wants to save these people, they will be saved, if not… not”. I have heard this argument repeatedly from Muslims as justification for not helping themselves or others in need. I haven’t heard of one Islamic government coming to the aid of any of the Tsunami victims.
Don’t even get me started on burqas.

Why is it necessary to submit to Mohamed? Why isn’t it good enough if I submit my will completely to God?

what I don’t seem to understand is why non muslims when they quote from the Quran seem to have in mind verses that they claim gives muslims the green card to go out and massacre non muslims when that is not true at all.I have never seen a non muslim come up with the verses where GOD in the quran is praising the non muslims the people of the book and how muslims are required to respect them.Muslims are allowed to marry their women and eat meat slaughtered by them. There are even verses in the quran where it is mentioned that among the Jews and Chrsitians , those who do not ascribe partners to GOD, who follow the one GOD and his true teaching then there is a great reward for them on the day of judgement.
So as I have repeated time and time to other non muslims why not read the Quran and not let others spoonfeed you their thoughts and their doctrines.see for yuorself.Ask for yourself.
You may be surprised the true answer is totall the opposite from what you have been made to beleive.

…don’t we all justify or excuse our behavior under the guise of this is what i believe… look at the millions killed down through history for no other reason than, “I don’t agree with you”, “you should believe and think like me”… or better yet… i want what you have/own because “MY GOD” tell’s me it’s ok, “at least that’s my interpretation”… there will be hell to pay one day for someone… i’m just trying to make sure it isn’t me!

Peace:thumbsup:

The submission is to God, not Muhammad.

Then why is it necessary to declare Muhammad his messenger to be considered Muslim?
If God tells you that Muhammad is His prophet, then you had best declare that Muhammad is His prophet! 🙂

Muslims don’t submit to mohammed we testify that there will be no other prophet after him that will bring messages from GOD.If someone does not accept mohamed as the final prophet then it means that when many false prophets come with their false messaage these poeople are likely to accept their falsehood.Whereas a muslim has certified by this declaration that he testifies that there will be no other prophet after the Prophet Mohamed .As Allah say in the Quran that revelation ends here, he has completed the relgion.Nothing to be added and nothing taken out.
Peace be with you

If a person follows the teaching of the Catholic Church they would not fall in to that problem. I still don’t have a good reason way I need to follow Mohamed.

That is your choice , there is no obligation upon you.Our Job(muslims)is just to convey the message.Islam preachesno compulsion:
[002.256] There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Tâghût and believes in Allâh, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
The choice is put before you, you take it or leave it.The Choice is yours.

Isn’t this quote really from a hadith, though?

“Muhammad said, ‘When Allah created Adam, He hit Adam on the right shoulder and the white race sprang out, while the black race came from the left shoulder. Allah said to those of the right hand to Paradise you are and to the left to hell you go.’” (Mishkat Al-Messabih, vol. 1, no. 119)

The only other thing I’d have to say here is that my first roommate in college was a Muslim. He told me that as a kid his parents didn’t want him going out to play in the sun so frequently and told him, “Why do you go out in the sun so much? You used to be so fair-skinned.” It didn’t make since to me then but it jumped out at me later when I started to learn more about Islam.
The above is totally absurd and ridiculous. I never heard about this until today. The reference is not even one of our authentic sources of hadith.

Please do yourself a favor. Learn Islam from authentic sources like: www.islamtomorrow.com

thx,

deen

It is NEVER okay to torture anyone, no matter who is doing the torture or who is being tortured.

It is inhumane, it is not Catholic, not Christian, it is immoral in any faith (short of Satanism or some perverted cult).

It was wrong during the Inquisition, it was wrong on both sides during the crusades, It was wrong in the past and it will still be wrong in the future.

No how, no way can anyone justify it.

The one exception being Jack Bauer in “24”. He gets the bad guys to confess every time… :tiphat: but it is okay only on that one tv show. In make believe, if you have a moral dilemma it is somewhat okay, but only IF the lives of millions of innocents are involve, and of course you always have to be 100% right about who you are torturing, otherwise it’s wrong. 😛

Mohamed (peace be upon him) is the final messenger, sent with the final revelation, which is a confirmation and clarification of what came before …to deny him (and consequently deny the revelation entrusted to him) is to deny much of the message

What proof is there that he was a prophet, what distinguishes him from any other person who has come and declared themselves a prophet?

Hey Scylla

Good question. I would have to say in order to answer it properly for yourself, you have to study his life and his teachings. All this, ofcourse, while asking God to help you reach the truth (prayer does a lot, we should never underestimate it)

He was a man who claimed to have recieved a message from God through an angel named Gabriel. He called out to his people to come together to worship the one true God and stop worshipping idols. He called for the rights of women, the poor, slaves and even animals (animal rights in 7th century arabia! if you want to learn more about this let me know). At first, the pagan people of his time tried to persuade him with money and any pleasure of this world if only he would give up his message. He told them that if they gave him the sun in his right hand and the moon in his left he would not give up his message.

So, they persecuted, harrassed him and killed many of his followers (the first person in the history of Islam to be murdered b/c they refused to worship idols and worsiped only 1 God was a woman!). He persevered with this message in the face of oppression and injustice and his message lives on today. over 1.2 billion people on this earth believe that there is no god worthy of worship but God alone and that Mohamed was the last messenger of God. Over 10 million have the entire revelation given to Mohamed (pbuh), memorized by heart.

If you objectivly study his life, it really is amazing. He would become upset when anyone even hinted at any kind of divinity. THe Quran is clear “mohamed is just a man”. When people came up to him and told him of their future plans, they would say “we will do this and this if God wills *and * you will” He replied “dont make me a partner with God, but it is better to say 'if God wills *then * if u will”
