Like after the mass is over ask for a quick confession. Is this generally frowned upon?

If you are in mortal sin and no confessions are available that day, you might do so. But be respectful of the busy life priests lead. On the other hand, if you are not in mortal sin, why not just be patient and wait until regularly scheduled confessions are held?

Yes. It’s absolutely acceptable. I’ve done it many times, and I cannot remember a time when I was rejected. If a priest ever says no, it will likely only be in cases where there’s an urgent matter that needs attended to directly after Mass.

It’s okay to ask, just don’t be upset if the priest says he can’t do it right then and asks you to please return at regular confession time. The priest may have another urgent appointment.

The “general” sentiment doesn’t matter. What matters is what your confessor asks you to do. If he welcomes requests to hear confessions after Mass, then it is OK. He might ask you to come and confess prior to Mass, if at all possible; if so, try to do that. If he thinks it is better if you come at the scheduled time if it is possible, then do as he asks. If he thinks it better that you make an appointment, try to do that. Tell him what works for you but then do as he asks, as much as possible for you.

If we’re humble, it doesn’t even matter what our confessor has as a general policy for other people. I’m not saying that we ought to use a position of closeness to a confessor to ask for special favors. I’m suggesting that even if he seems to be holding you to a stricter account than other people or even if he deems you to be in need of special treatment on account of your particular spiritual health or strength, the main thing is to do what your confessor, the one who is the physician of your soul, asks you to do.

You can pretty much ask anything you wish. Some may be able to accommodate, some may not.

Sure. If he can’t hear you right then, he will suggest another time.
