I can appreciate and I totally agree with the highlighted sentence, BUT just how does one go about loving Satan? Does it say that anywhere in the Bible? When Jesus was in the desert Satan came to Him 3 times and Jesus rebuked him thrice…he didn’t say let’s talk, would you like some berries or a cup of wine?
One should love Satan, but there isn’t really any way that we can show a practical expression for that love. One should endevour to stay as far away from Satan as possible. He’s too dangerous to deal with. Remember what love really is: desiring the good for another, and if possible, helping them achieve that good. With satan, anything we do to make him happy would be extremely damaging to ourselves and the souls around us, so we should in no way assist him. Satan is the one case where loving requires no action.
I am sorry, but that goes against my Catholic beliefs. I cannot love Satan because he is sin personified.
he is not sin personified. That makes him the opposite of God, who truly is love personified, and Satan is just a creation and a really big sinner.
This is starting to sound a little too progressive for my taste! I am sure that had I expressed an opinion like that in my grade school I would’ve had my ears boxed by the nuns and I would’ve been expelled from the Preparatory Seminary that l attended as well.
I think this may be the first time I’ve been called a progressive!😃

Hopefully a priest could drop in on this thread and offer a more definitive answer/explanation!

Much Peace!

Mike 🙂

The devil is not human,

yes we can hate him and all his cohorts because he mocks God. Hate devil and all his works.

Some atheists on this forum mock God too. That gives us no liscence to hate them.

Reject satan, yes. Hate Satan, no.

Talk about threads that go for no reason.

Why even focus on loving or hating Satan? Neither ie necessary. Fear him. Flee from him. Focus on God, and your attitude towards Satan will resolve itself.

To argue about whether or not love or hate the unredeemable sould that fell from grace and is the sole source of all evil in the history of the recorded universe serves no purpose.

You don’t have to reconcile either feeling towards evil in order to recognize it and avoid it. Anything else is a wasted venture.

It seems that you are making the claim that loving the irredeemable is useless, practically speaking. that would be true, if love were not an end of itself.

The atheists are swooned by the devils works in mocking God. He has got them fooled that he doesn’t exit. The same thing. We don’t hate people, we hate what they do if it’s evil. We pray for there conversion. The devil gets thrown into hell remember? According to the teachings of the Catholic church we are allowed to hate the devil and all his works. Remember he is not human and he is bringing a lot of humans with him, Are we not to hate evil? If we don’t hate the devil and the evil that he does than what are you fighting for? We are fighting souls, not Policitically Correctness. We are not to Fear but be aware of the devil. We have Chirst on our side who can harm us when we put our trust in him.

So are we, but we choose not to mock him. If atheists mock God, they do it of their free will.

the same should be true of Satan.

by this logic, we should also hate the people in hell, not just the demons.

he isn’t Evil itself either. he is a being who has chosen to sin against God, and as you said, we shouldn’t hate the being who does evil, but the evil itself.
If we don’t hate the devil and the evil that he does than what are you fighting for?
You can fight against someone without hating the person you’re fighting.
We are not to Fear but be aware of the devil. We have Chirst on our side who can harm us when we put our trust in him.
I’m sure you mean “help” instead of “harm” here. I agree, but that is no reason to hate the devil.

Since Satan is outside of time, his eternal fate is sealed. He made his choice, and he and his fallen angel cohorts are in Hell for all eternity. There is no hope of conversion or salvation. He does not love, nor will he. As such, there is no reason to pray for Satan. He is lost - and he wants to share that fate with as many souls as possible.

Spend your time praying for those who are on earth or in Purgatory because they are the only ones that can benefit from your prayers.

Nobody is arguing that we should pray for Satan. The question is, is it morally acceptable to hate him?

Yes I did mean help.

Jesus said in John 3:20, “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
Satan is in stealth mode as much as possible as he devises evil and hides in darkness trying not to be exposed by the light.
Ephesians 2:2-3 We once “*walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,” *This is the disobedience that Satan influences us in through our sinful nature until one is regenerated.
Satan is known as the enemy of our souls. He oppresses, he takes captives, he deceives, he lies; he kills and destroys-Peter calls him our adversary1 Peter 5:8. Jesus commends the church that “cannot bear those who are evil” (Revelation 2:2). Satan is evil.
The Bible tells us to pray for those who do evil to us
, **but in this matter there is no redemption for Satan and his rebellious demons that are already sentenced waiting to be judged. In 1 John 3:8 we are told “for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Satan is to be “cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Matthew 25:41, as are all those who refuse Christ and follow his ways.

The devil hated Jesus and used everything at his disposal to prevent him from a successful mission. John 15:23 “He who hates Me hates My Father also.”
If God and Jesus hate sin and evil and Satan is the author of it, (and embodies it) then certainly we are justified to hate what God hates.

Why would we hate people in hell they are already lost. What a waste of time that would be. We are fighting for souls that can be redeemed. Satan has been allowed to roam the earth, so he isn’t in hell yet and he is coming after all of us still here. He still has some of the powers of an angels, that’s why we have to becareful not to be fooled. He can come as an angel of the light, but he is really the devil. I think your thinking of it as a feeling of being hateful, instead of the reality just to hate what God hates. I have a some more passages if you want them.

Yes you should hate Satan and turn away from him and anyone who is in the clutches of evil. There is evil in this world, and sometimes it is very seductive. If someone or something is destroying your goodness, your integrity and your faith, turn away from them/it with all your heart and mind, and turn toward God.

Jesus and God do hate sin and evil, but the divil is not the author, nor does he emoby sin and evil. Since Satan isn’t sin personified, God doesn’t hate him, but rather, loves him.

Nothing in the quotes from the bible you mentioned indicate that the devil is exactly the same as sin, or that jesus and God hate anything other than sin itself. Yes, the devil is evil and sinful, but this is very different from identical to sin.

neither hating nor loving “wastes time” hate and love are not about time, they are about whether or not you want the best for another being. In the case of the devil and those in hell, this doesn’t translate into any action that we have to take.
I think your thinking of it as a feeling of being hateful, instead of the reality just to hate what God hates.
Could you tell me what you interpret the distinction to be? and again, God doesn’t hate the devil.

Do what you want. Your not going to be convinced. Anyone who would love the devil is not using there intelligence. Pride The devil is the author of sin, We are not supposed to love the devil, Period. Why argue with me? If you want to love the devil, good luck your in a heap up trouble to love the devil and everything he stands for. Ask the moderators on here because you don’t seem to understand what would be obvious to most people who know there faith. I will pray for your enlightenment. The question was can we hate the devil. Yes. God can’t love something that is in hell because he is not there. He hates evil. GB

Just to let you know I tried to ask the moderator this question. Will wait and see if they post it. I didn’t mean to offend you if I came across short. Just trying to look out for souls Satan wants.
I asked my priest in this morning mass this question and he laughed, he said we should ignore the devil and he didn’t think it was a sin to hate him.
God Bless

satan is not a person…satan is the ultimate EVIL…is it okay to hate satan? Is it okay to hate what satan stands for? What satan has done to this world?

If you are hating what satan stands for (SIN) then yes, its okay…at least that’s my take,

That’s why I pray the Saint Michael the Archangel prayer before I go to bed.

Pride The devil is the author of sin, We are not supposed to love the devil, Period.
The devil is very sinful, but he is not sin itself. If the devil had not sinned then other angels and humans could have, and that person or angel, as the first sinner, would have been the author of sin.
If you want to love the devil, good luck your in a heap up trouble to love the devil and everything he stands for.
You can love the devil while hating everything he stands for.
Ask the moderators on here because you don’t seem to understand what would be obvious to most people who know there faith.
If you are going to make an argument based on church authority, you’ll have to show me an article of faith that says we should hate the devil, rather than your own interpretations of catholic teaching.
God can’t love something that is in hell because he is not there.
Actually, he is in hell to a minute extent, because he is in everything that exists.
He hates evil.
agreed.

And there are well-known theologians who say that God loves the devil. So it’s their word agaisnt the word of your priest.

satan is a person, though he is not a human being. As for being the ultimate evil, that’s true if you mean that there is no one more evil than Satan, but it is not true if you mean that Satan is evilness itself.
