Hi Technerd,

There.s a new Catholic version of the NLT available through Amazon at a very affordable price! Enjoy!

The problem with study bibles for a Catholic is that the “studies” in them are not authoritative and may oppose Catholic teaching. I have the Catholic edition of the NLT and it is not bad.

There is an “official” Catholic study bible, but I have some reservations about it. There is a study edition of the Ignatius Bible (Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition), but I understand that it is not yet finished.

If your NLT is not the Catholic edition, and you can send it back to Amazon, please consider exchanging it for a Catholic NLT.

Catholic Bibles are recommended because they contain the complete canon of scripture and because commentaries in non-Catholic Bibles might include some things that don’t align with Church teaching, or you can miss out on certain insights.

It’s not sinful to read a non-Catholic version but it’s not ideal.

Peace.

It is a protestant bible so it will be missing some of the books that you would find in a Catholic bible.
