Is it okay to not say the Rosary daily?

I have to be totally honest.I sometimes say the Rosary begrudgingly.I dont really have any problems with the meaning and significance of the the Rosary but there’s times when it feels very time consuming espeically since when I do it “optimally” I think of the individual prayers as being intented for someone or something and/or I just *feel *that as another way to get some regular spiritual activity I’d rather do something else like say prayers my own way,read a chapter of the Bible out loud or say this one specific that’s one this piece of paper with a picture of the shroud of Turin and that says something like “The Golden Arrow Holy Face Devotion Prayer”.I would still be willing to say the Rosary just not as often.One of the reasons that I still keep saying it dialy even though I reluctant to is because of “the promises of Mary to those who pray the Rosary” (as it says on the back of the pamphlet I use for praying).Any advice?.Thank you very much so for your time.
 
Ofcourse it is. The Rosary is a devotion. It is good and beneficial to say it, but it is not a requirement. If you feel you get more out of other prayers, then say those. Feeling ‘forced’ to say particularly prayers is of no benefit to you.
 
Almost all split infinitives are hard on the ear. This one is especially so. Do people talk that way now?

No one is required to ever say the rosary. The rosary is a private devotion. You may say whatever other prayers or follow whatever other devotional practices help you build your faith. The rosary is very popular and many saints have recommended it, but it is still not required.
 
The Apostle’s never said the Rosary and they did OK 😃

The Rosary was originally started by St. Francis to allow brothers who could not read the chance to participate in the daily prayers of the Friars. It started out as the Franciscan Crown - 50 Our Fathers.

It was developed as a way to meditate on various “mysteries” of Christ’s saving mission.

So you can choose any devotional prayer that “works” for you.

Scripture reading is good (understatement of the year!). There are some good websites (e.g., rc.net/wcc/readings/ ) that provide daily meditations. You could also do (some or all of ) the Office e.g., divineoffice.org/

Just google “daily devotional prayers for catholics” you’ll find a ton of resources.
 
You need never pray a single Rosary to be a good Catholic. However, done properly, it has great spiritual significance. It took me quite awhile to delve into it in greater depth. Here is a Rosary web page with a series of paintings and other artwork that coincide with each mystery. Just click on the appropriate mystery along the right border, then click on the picture of the hand holding the Rosary. You can then arrow to the right through the paintings. It gives a new meaning to each mystery, I have found. Just a thought.

it is okay to never say the rosary. It is a private devotion and there is no requirement whatever on any Catholic to pray the rosary at any time.

We are all obligated to pray daily as a duty owed to God in the virtue of religion. There is a rich treasury of prayer forms in Christian tradition. What is wrong is begruding the time owed to God. The reason this is wrong is because if you cannot devote some minutes of the day to God, the work of the rest of the day will have little value and no good effect. In other words, if you can’t spend some time with God, you waste all the rest of the time.
 
Of course it is OK. In fact, if you feel drawn to other devotions you should pursue them and let the Rosary go - at least for awhile. Any devotion can become stale, rote, meaningless repetition.
Changing things up a bit keeps us on our toes, opens fresh avenues of grace, forces us to think and focus more on what we are doing.
By all means feel free to use different devotions. 👍

Was just thinking the Divine Mercy Chaplet might fit here…
 
It would be better for you to do any other devotion devoutly than to do a rosary grudgingly. Do the devotion that touches your heart.

Tell that to whomever wrote the introduction to ‘Star Trek’. “To boldly go, where no man has gone before!” sure beats, “To go boldly where no man has gone before!”

Like a stick of firewood, some infinitives improve upon being split. Just don’t dangle your modifiers, especially in public.

To split or not to split, that is the question…ah but there’s the rub, for who knows…?.

To boldly split, where no man has ever split before! No less than mankind’s destiny hangs in this balance. Have the courage!

Once when corrected about ending a sentence with a preposition, Winston Churchill replied,“This is the kind of English up with which I will not put.”

It is ok not to pray the Rosary every day, but you should if you can. St. Louis de Montfort says after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Rosary is the most perfect prayer. I want to say it was St. Teresa of Avila (I could be wrong) that prayed the Rosary daily but did not like to, but she did it because of the merit that she could only gain from the Rosary. St. Francis de Sales said that when we say prayers that we do not feel like praying, or when we become distracted during prayer, we can actually merit from it more spiritually than if we didn’t get distracted because God sees that we actually have to struggle through temptations and if we persevere in prayer then it is pleasing to God. St. Josemaria Escriva prayed the Rosary daily, and incorporated it into the daily life plan of Opus Dei. Pope Benedict prays 20 decades a day. St. Padre Pio would sometimes pray up to 50 decades a day! One thing that is a common theme in the lives of the Saints is that they all prayed a daily Rosary. As a matter of fact I really can’t think of one prayer that was so commonly said among all the saints as the Rosary. There are many different ways to pray the Rosary, I get bored doing it the same way every time too, but what I did that helped was I bought a couple different Rosary prayer books and I alternate the method in which I say it every week. I would recommend St. Josemaria Escriva’s method, and the book called pray the Rosary by St. Joseph press, also this Rosary book is pure gold: angeluspress.org/oscatalog/item/8403/the-holy-rosary , the only drawback is that it doesn’t have the luminous mysteries 😦 . So while you don’t have to say the Rosary every day, I would at least try to.

I am curious, did someone tell you or lead you to believe that you must pray the rosary? It sometimes happens that converts are told that (I don’t assume you are a convert, just sayin’) or they are led to believe that, but it is not true.

Puzzleannie’s post #7 is quite correct.

Bear in mind that the first Christians did not have a rosary, and the one said today is the end product of long development. Saint Mary herself surely never said it in life (nor any of the Apostles). There are many good ways to lead a devout life and that can include a prayer rule like the rosary, for those who prefer to pray and meditate on the rosary that is fine for them. You do what is best for you, when the Spirit moves you 😉 .
 
OP I totally understand your feelings about saying the Rosary. I almost feel the same way. Yet, some people love it.

Well, I am committed to saying at least one decade, once a day for at least a year as I joined the Confraternity of St Peter. I do say all ten decades though.

I am hoping by this time next year, I too will have a love for it.
