Try joining the military and making through basic without getting comfortable with nudity and being naked.

There is NO privacy what-so-ever. Group showers, open bays with rows of beds and a very limited amount of time to do anything.

So, you were getting changed, taking showers and sometimes using the bathroom together and in front of each other.

They won’t mix genders in most military environments…however, being out in the field with mixed genders will blur the lines big time…especially with women now in combat positions and working on the front lines.

As for the TV show? I wouldn’t watch it…just because I have no interest in that kind of nonsense.
It’s just a gimmick to get people to tune in and watch.
I think there are far better shows then that.

Sinful? I don’t know…it certainly is an occasion of sin and we should avoid that but people are different across the board and where for some people it’s an occasion of sin…it might not be for others.

And if this was various places in Europe, or PBS, it wouldn’t be blurred out.

Because people are interested in human resilience, and resourcefulness.
Seems our civilization is going backwards. I think there has been plenty of ways to see human resilience and resourcefulness without resorting to nudity. Our Lady of Fatima said, “More people go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason.” And
Fashions will be introduced that will offend my Son greatly." Don’t you think it’s time to pay attention to what she said?? God Bless, Memaw

There IS a difference between CULTURE & FASHION. Fashion often leads to promiscuity. Culture has definite restraints, AND, the controls, like the TEN Commandments give freedoms which ARE different than liberties.

Naturists can look at one another, OGLNG, or staring is frowned upon, and can be cause for removal from almost all resorts. Even native cultures as in Africa & Australia have very definite penalties. BEWARE! Other actions, also wrong in society, are also condemned and hardly condoned.

My family used to take baths at her mother’s house across a narrow field and dead end street. In warm weather, we might run, or walk, back home nude, 6 of us. Mom’s family was German. Grandma was born in Chicago. Granpa jumped German Navy ship at Ellis Island & came to Chicago with a Stradivarius! He was a conscripted master violinist. He later invented a metal cutting bench shear in the 1920’s, which is still being manufactured today, became a bank president and German ambassador.

In the 1940’s through 60’s, many schools, the Ys gyms and some indoor park district pools had nude swimming for the males. The girls would take gang showers, some did keep panties and bras on. And would change in their locker space.

One girl in a Chicago Lutheran high school had all her clothes get wet and wore a school jacket to class, with a only a pair of borrowed slacks. The male teacher demanded she remove the jacket without leaving the girl explain the reason, after a few minutes, the girl did remove the jacket exposing her breasts. The class was quiet, the girl replaced the jacket and went to the principal’s office. This story was heard on bus after school.

You might read “Naked Without Shame” by Christopher West, and get the CD which may still be free!
The CDs are no longer available.

The society cannot go backwards in matters of clothing because these issues are cyclical. Consider what is known about clothing norms in Roman times, then Medieval, then Renaissance, then the 1800s, then now.

The word “modesty” is currently used as a bludgeon to compel conformism. Think of all the people on this system who think modesty means making men wear suits!

If the society is going backward, it is not shows like N&A that are the problem, but the survivor subculture generally. The survivor crowd’s love for catastrophe and decline is frankly creepy.

Believe me, if the catastrophe they seem to long for takes place, you will have concerns far beyond whether someone is nekkid.

It’s a good thing I barely watch television for entertainment, if I watch television at all.

I am bemused by five pages of comments about this, I have to say. I’m only commenting on this thread because the title intrigued me–“How on earth could someone ask such a question?” I said to myself. Have we jumped back in time to 1650 and Cromwell’s Puritan England?

You can go ahead and jump on me, but this sort of thing–which I’ve seen an awful lot on this site, to my dismay–strikes me as scrupulosity taken to the nth degree. It lacks a sense of proportion.

Do you really think that God is concerned with what TV shows you watch? Really? Maybe some are in bad taste, or stupid, or appeal to the worst side of people (like the cruelty in The Bachelor/Bachelorette), but come on people. It’s TV.

Stop and think about a typical day, just for an example. Maybe you know someone in the hospital. Did you call or visit them? Maybe you know someone who’s unemployed. Did you try to encourage them? Have you talked to your friends about helping get them a job? Did you pass someone in the store who was having a hard time managing their bags and their kids? Did you offer to help out?

And then we get to the bigger stuff. Have you ever had a job where you knew the company was doing something unethical? What did you do about it? Have you seen other employees steal something, or cheat, or …? If you have the power to hire and fire, have you considered the effect your actions are going to have on the people involved? If you own a small business, do you think it’s your duty to protect and care for your employees, or do you pay them as little as possible?

On an international scale, what have you done to help Syrian refugees? The victims of the Nepal earthquake? Do you make an effort to inform yourself about what’s going on in the world? Or do you get so worked up about gay marriage that you’re ignoring the millions of people who will get inadequate health care because some politician wants to appeal to a certain group to get elected?

It seems to me that any one of these things is much, much more important on the moral scale than watching a TV show–ANY TV show. I don’t think God is a TV critic. I DO think Jesus said “Love your neighbor as you love yourself” as one of the prime commandments. Do you?

Wasn’t nekkid swimming sex-segregated? That would never be accepted today.

It’s a shame, really. We want everybody to be “comfortable in their skin.” But that should include nekkid, where acceptable. The human body is not a sexual shame engine.

No! Absolutely not “nekkid” !!!

I don’t remember who said it, but there’s a difference between “naked” and “nekkid.”

“Naked” is when you don’t have any clothes on.

“Nekkid” is when you don’t have any clothes on…
and you’re up to something!

If a TV show is an occasion of sin…causing you to have impure thoughts or maybe giving you ideas on how to rob a bank or kill your wife…God would be concerned!

I love my neighbor enough to not want them to parade around nude in public, on TV, the beach , (nearly nude) any where else. and I love my neighbor enough to care about the souls of those that do or are entertained by those that do, in any way. Yes, God Cares about what we watch on TV or anywhere else. "If your eye caused you to sin, Pluck it Out:
He cares for the sake of our Eternal soul. And so should we, OURS as well as our Neighbors!!! God Bless, Memaw

Scrupulosity. Trivial. Lacks a sense of proportion.

I am relatively new to this site, and I guess it makes sense that more pious people would frequent it, but I have to say I am more than a little surprised at what I’ve seen here. Cromwell and the Puritans would feel right at home here–and that’s not a good thing!

Having said that, good for you, and I guess sainthood is in your future. I still can’t help wondering if some of the Puritans on the site have lost sight of the forest because they’re concentrating so hard on the (nude) trees.

Maybe that’s why our country is in such a mess morally, we’re to busy looking at the trees. Thanks for letting us know!! God Bless, Memaw

Yes, it is.

Let me give some actual examples of what I’m talking about. Several years ago I decided to go to a religious program put on by our local parish. It met at different people’s homes. Several times it met in the home of a guy who owned a plumbing business. His home was a mansion. There was a FOUNTAIN in the entryway!!!

So in the course of conversation, this guy expressed surprise that his workers (Hispanic) didn’t have proper clothing for the winter. He didn’t say anything about helping them, he was just surprised at their poverty.

This guy was like a lot of people on this site–“No, no, that’s a sin.” I would submit to you that paying your workers so little that they don’t have proper clothing for the winter–while you have a home with a fountain in the entryway–is a sin that FAR, FAR outweighs 99% of these trivial matters.

Another example: I have been fired from several jobs. Why? Because in meetings I say things like “No, you shouldn’t be defrauding our customers like that. It’s wrong.” I’m not a “team player.” Yet other Catholics have been in the room with me and have kept silent as their company continued defrauding customers. When another company I worked for decided not to recall a certain vaccine that they found out was ineffective (manufacturing errors), I spoke up and said they should recall it before we killed people. I was fired. They never re-called the vaccine. Other Catholics worked there and said nothing. I suspect they were fretting over whether watching “Naked and Afraid” was a sin.

I, for one, am disgusted.

In response to the vaccine thing, have you tried filing a complaint to whistleblowers.gov/? I don’t know too much about this area, so don’t take my words as legal advice. However, there is a way for you to ask a question to a lawyer for free. They would know more about this than me. avvo.com/

The conscience selector should come before the channel selector. There is NO excuse for such trash. God Bless, Memaw
I wouldn’t watch this show myself simply because I don’t like reality shows outside of Undercover Boss or Shark Tank. However, I think this show may be problematic for some guys. In fact I feel sorry for them because many of the shows on now feature women who might as well be nude and situations that are problematic. That said, I think any show that’s leading you to sinful thoughts via language or situations should be avoided. Remember the oldie but goodie in our catechism, “occasions of sin”? Some may be different for men and women… Most women (not that they’d probably do this) wouldn’t have sinful thoughts at a strip club, but men would. Women would be tempted in other ways, maybe with glamorous lives, clothes or homes. Each of us should know what to avoid. I find myself reading more than watching TV but then again I’ve always done that. We watch a lot of old movies on DVDs. My husband’s a sci fi fan and ordinarily they’re less objectionable than the regular shows.

It’s a sin for those acting on the show so should not even be on TV for others to watch. It’s not a matter of OUR choice, It’s what God expects of us concerning modesty. God Bless, Memaw

Is it okay to watch shrek is love, shrek is life on youtube?

It involves where shrek comes into a mans bedroom, has gay sex with him and then flies out the window.
I watched parts 1-4 and I want to know if this is okay or if I need to go to confession. They don’t show any genitals by the way and the whole thing is animated.

I’m also not making this up. This is a real popular video.

I just need to know if I need to go to confession or not.

Please help.

I’ve watched every episode of this show. I fund it fascinating what people will go through just to complete the challenge. They basically starve and get eaten by bugs for 21 days, They struggle to build a fire and catch anything to eat. They get rained on for days on end. They’re surrounded by wild animals and poisonous insects. They go through horrible torture and persevere to the end. The nakedness only effects the show in that it increases their misery. It doesn’t lead to romance. Their nakedness represents them having next to nothing, not a marketing gimmick.

I find it ironic that a previous poster was gloating over how they gave up TV. These people gave up everything. Using giving up TV as a measuring stick of awesomeness, these people would be the most awesome of the awesome.

If anything, this show demonstrates that no matter how bad you have it. You could be much worse off and if these people can survive, so can you.

Yes they gave up everything and I find it a bit ironic that they can go through all that and even survive on their own. Sounds a bit far fetched to me. And no I am not interested in watching someone “survive” in the nude. What do you suppose their families think? I can not in my wildest dreams ever imagine my Mom doing something like that with NO ONE looking, let alone for the whole world to see, nor can I ever imagine me doing that for my family to have to deal with. I’d rather watch the stories of homesteaders in Alaska. God Bless, Memaw
