It is not only possible, it is much more fun than being friends with women. Once a man understands that you have absolutely no interest in him as a romantic partner/husband, there is this giant exhale of relief and life becomes interesting for both of you. I have male friends of all ages, from several countries, and have even shared hotel rooms (two beds) with some of them to save money, with no consequences at all. My best girlfriend and I used to spend a lot of time hanging out with professional hockey players back in the 1970s – she was pursuing them for the usual reasons, but I wanted to hear their stories, as in those days most of them were country boys from Canada and we were living in LA which was quite a change for them. Once they realized I would not repeat anything they said, I had more friends than I had time to listen to, and I also learned more about another side of some players (through conversation meant to warn me) than I ever would have believed.
One of my best friends is an Italian guy with a Lamborghini and a wonderful sense of humour; he looks upon me as an auntie, more or less, which is fine with me, but always gets a kick out of meeting me somewhere when I am with younger women friends and presenting me with a large bouquet or sending extravagant desserts to our table just to make me laugh. (No one could possibly marry him. In three days they would be forced to kill him. I have told him this and he thinks I’m kidding.)
Friendship is one of those things that pretty much went into the porcelain facility when the Sixties Hippies all discovered their, er, naughty bits and decided to spend the next 40 years calling our attention to them. Personally I think a lot of people are missing out on a lot of good times.
