Just something I’ve been wondering about. What’s your take on this? I’ve recently got in touch with someone whom I knew before and considered dating. Things didn’t work out for one reason or another. Would a single woman talk to/hang out with a single guy (not in a group setting), just because they’re friends? In my experience, things tend to always take a turn for the better (they starting dating) or worse (the friendship ends).

Is it possible? Of course, all things are possible with God.

Does it happen? Rarely, I think it is a real danger of one of them falling for the other and then things will go downhill quickly.

Of course it’s possible! Some of my best friends when I was single were single guys. There were certain topics agreed upon to just not discuss (i.e. - they really didn’t need to hear about monthly issues, things like that).

Yeah its possible.

Someone can be a good friend, and yet be totally incompatible with you if you were in a relationship.

I have quite a few friends who are single young women. We don’t go out all the time…but we’re still friends

My past experiences has been it’s almost always turned into a physical attraction on my side or his. The ‘‘friendships’’ and I use the term losely, always ended when the sex did :o

Since coming to CAF I just stay clear of guys. They’re nothing but trouble anyhow 😛 😛 😛

For me, it depended on what she looked like. If she was what I thought was attractive, I couldn’t do it, cause I always wanted to go out with her.

I know, I was a dog, but at least I was hones onet. 🤷

So what did CAF do to ya to make ya phase out guys?

I’ve always had a good number of guy friends. But becuase I spend so much time with them I tend to eventually fall for them. I’ve even dated one of my guy friends. Though after our break-up we haven’t tlaked as much as we used to.

I have no idea. As a guy, I tend to say no, but I’ve met girls who said they were only interested in friendship, so I didn’t push it further. It is confusing, though, because I can never tell the girl’s intentions. I’m not very good at dating. 😦

You’ve never been given the “Let’s just be friends” speech?

Am I the only one who starts thinking about ”When Harry Met Sally”, when reading this thread :). As far as the question goes, yes I do think it is possible. However the most likely outcome is that one or both will eventually start feeling attracted to the other friend.

I think it’s probably easier if there wasn’t a romantic relationship beforehand, but entirely possible. If God wishes it to be more, He will send you the memo.😃

I didn’t even know it was an issue until I was about 19 and a majority of my friends were men. It upset me that all that time there had been a question of whether these friendships were possible. Now I’m afraid to try to be friends with anyone though I still do, and being around men makes me nervous, after learning over a period of years that most men don’t think it’s easy to be friends with a woman. I had no clue. Now all I can think of is, what else don’t I know about friends and about men?

Yeah I used to have a really good friend we used to hang out all the time, just he and I, it was great…We did this through most of hs…We never did anything nor took it to the next level…we stayed friends…

Until after I got married and was pg with my second child, he confessed that he always loved me but was too afraid to tell me!!

Our friendship ended there, for a while…then a decade later he appeared into my life again and wanted to talk as friends, I thought it was nice of him and befriended him again…That’s all we have stayed as! 😃

It is not only possible, it is much more fun than being friends with women. Once a man understands that you have absolutely no interest in him as a romantic partner/husband, there is this giant exhale of relief and life becomes interesting for both of you. I have male friends of all ages, from several countries, and have even shared hotel rooms (two beds) with some of them to save money, with no consequences at all. My best girlfriend and I used to spend a lot of time hanging out with professional hockey players back in the 1970s – she was pursuing them for the usual reasons, but I wanted to hear their stories, as in those days most of them were country boys from Canada and we were living in LA which was quite a change for them. Once they realized I would not repeat anything they said, I had more friends than I had time to listen to, and I also learned more about another side of some players (through conversation meant to warn me) than I ever would have believed.

One of my best friends is an Italian guy with a Lamborghini and a wonderful sense of humour; he looks upon me as an auntie, more or less, which is fine with me, but always gets a kick out of meeting me somewhere when I am with younger women friends and presenting me with a large bouquet or sending extravagant desserts to our table just to make me laugh. (No one could possibly marry him. In three days they would be forced to kill him. I have told him this and he thinks I’m kidding.)

Friendship is one of those things that pretty much went into the porcelain facility when the Sixties Hippies all discovered their, er, naughty bits and decided to spend the next 40 years calling our attention to them. Personally I think a lot of people are missing out on a lot of good times.

Certainly, particularly when they share similar interests and especially when they are ones that more men have than women do. Also I have a number of married male friends who I socialise with, go to lunch with, have dinner with.

I’ve never had the experience of falling for such a guy but yes, this could happen. Have had it happen the other way round and a single guy fell for me. We had to take a break in being together alone while he dealt with the fact that I hadn’t fallen for him and me with almost a feeling of guilt that I did not reciprocate his love. We were then able to resume our friendship.

yea I think its possible I never had any friends that were girls but it’s def possible

Depends on the people, but possible in general. Hard to keep it friends when actual eros love chimes in, but then why would one chase it off if one were free to pursue it and it were mutual? Nothing wrong with one on one meetings between friends of each a different gender. Now if dating didn’t work, you have little reason to worry about the friendship going some bad way unless one of you is harbouring some regrets or grudges.

For the record, people do tend to get slightly romantic about their opposite gender friends. Just slightly. And it’s really not the same as with a a same-gender friendship, anyway. Nor is it like between siblings. There’s always some difference.
